Firefox loses passwords at every update

Every time Firefox (on Windows desktop) updates it loses all passwords. I am able to recover them by syncing from my Firefox Android. Surely, there is a better solution than that. Is there a way to protect the passwords in a file or is there a Firefox setting that needs to be changed?
