My Mac last night lost thunderbird (and numerous others things) and it's setting itself up again. I get an error that smpt already exists and I can't go any further! What's going on? Using Comcast Mail.

click to 'account settings' and scroll down to 'Outgoing servers SMTP' and click there. The unwanted SMTP server may be listed there.

Only things listed are the usual comcast servers

Hello there

It is possible that your settings are configured incorrectly. Could you please send us screenshots of your SMTP settings and your outgoing server list?

Use https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-make-screenshots

It is fine. Remnants from an old email account might share the same outgoing server settings. Thunderbird automatically detects and attempts to use these files.

If these files malfunction, it can trigger an error indicating that the configuration is blocked or failing.

Open the SMTP settings:Click the Gear icon (Settings) in the bottom-left corner of Thunderbird.Click on Account Settings.

In the left panel, scroll down and select Outgoing Server (SMTP).Manually add a unique SMTP server:Manually enter the Comcast server details:

Server Name: smtp.Comcast.net Port: 587 connection Security: Start TLS Authentication Method: Normal password user Name: Your full Comcast email address

Link the SMTP server to your mail account:In the left panel, scroll back up and click on your main Comcast account name.

At the bottom of the right pane, locate the Outgoing Server (SMTP) section.Click the dropdown menu and select the newly created SMTP server, which you can identify by your username.

Hello there

As you can see in the list, these servers are located there. Did you notice anything else unusual during this server outage? For instance, did you receive any error messages or alerts on your desktop?

Please report this to us so we can investigate your situation further. Feel free to share any details about the current issues you are experiencing.

To support this, you also can update the software to avoid unwanted situations. Please use this : https://www.thunderbird.net/en-GB/download/
