Why can't Thunderbird use new yahoo email platform for Comcast on MacBook Air?
I have been shifting my email platform from Comcast to the new Yahoo platform. This has worked for my iPhone and for my Thunderbird app on my iMac. But NOTHING works for this on my MacBook Air. My gmail is fine, but the only way I can get to my new Yahoo platform is to sign in via the web browser. Thunderbird will not configure for the MacBook Air, and I've tried 10-15 different things already (not an expert by any means). I have all the proper settings. I have reinstalled Thunderbird on the latter machine.

- What version of Thunderbird?
- Please describe "doesn't work" and "will not configure" in more detail. Fully quote all error messages you see. Screen shots would suffice.
- Do you use a VPN? You might need to turn it off during authentication.
- Cookies may need to be allowed. See <Settings | Privacy & Security | Web Content | Accept cookies from sites>.
- Do you have multiple Yahoo accounts set up in Thunderbird? If so, you might be encountering this issue:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-and-yahoo
It describes how, due to some new security measures on Yahoo's part, you might need to go into Thunderbird's Config Editor and make a change that allows Thunderbird to distinguish between the multiple accounts during authentication..
Much of this is beyond my skill level. Thunderbird works just fine with Yahoo mail on imac and iphone. It's JUST the Macbook Air that is a problem. I don't do well working with editors. I've tried deleting Thunderbird and reinstalling, and several other suggestions from the web. As for "what doesn't work"--I keep getting a request for a new password, over and over. When I delete the account in Thunderbird and try to reinstall t connect with Yahoo, it simply won't configure (and I have all the Yahoo server settings needed). And again, all is fine on my iMac and iphone. Hence I'll just use the web browser to access the new Yahoo mail platform for Comcast, as at least that works on my iMac. So it's not like I'm "blind," just frustrated. I cannot imagine I'm the only one with these difficulties. I have the same security software on all three of these devices, so that's not likely a problem. I'll leave this to someone smarter and more skilled than I am to work all this out.
That's your prerogative, of course. I'm sure the issue could be dealt with and you could continue using Thunderbird with its useful mail managing features. But if you don't need those features and web mail does all you need, then I guess you're in a good place.
I still use Thunderbird for other email accounts. It's just the Comcast to Yahoo conversion that is problematic---and only on the one computer. If this were to become too difficult, I'd hire someone with more skills than my own to fix it. As I mentioned above, I cannot believe I'm the only one with this problem. There is likely some logical explanation, but I'm not the one to find it.
Thanks for your comments.
For yahoo+oauth in 153: 1. In Thunderbird > Settings > Config Editor make mailnews.oauth.usePrivateBrowser=true, mailnews.oauth.useSchemeRedirect=false 2. Restart Thunderbird 3. Login
A change will be coming to resolve this issue.
Thanks. I tried this but nothing seemed to change. Perhaps it is my lack of expertise here, so I'll hope this is fixed with a future update to either Thunderbird or the Yahoo mail platform or both.
Reinstall isn't going to help.
I think it's unlikely that there is a Thunderbird bug, except the one resolved by my instructions. Please post a screen shot of where you get stuck.
I am not sure where I'm stuck. The setup for the Yahoo email stalls and Thunderbird constantly asks for a new password, But that is accurate on all my other machines--this is just a problem with my MacBook Air. I wondered if the TP-powerline adapter were a factor, but the same thing happened when I switched to my wireless connection. Thanks for trying. I will be OK as long as the webmail works with this laptop.
