Update available!?!?!?

Agent virtuel replied
Bongo042

Everytime I open firefox, a small window opens that tells me "Update available Download the latest version of firefox, Download or Dismiss". Hitting download saves the update for ver 151.0.4 to my harddrive. I have several of these files because of all the times I've updated forgetting that its already been updated to 151.0.4!

Why do you keep asking me to upgrade when I already did?

To get here I went to "mozilla support" and I clicked the box requesting you send me an email when someone replies to this. This "someone" implies that this person is part of your "community" not a mozilla employee, which is what "mozilla support" implies. After taking my time to follow your vague directives, I dont expect to get any help from you but I am hopeful.

I tried adding images which took me away from this page and when I tried coming back to this page, everything I typed was gone so I had to start over. So I'm not going to click on "share data" for the fear the same thing will happen. Thanks for that

I'll make the first update. When checking your support page about the 151.0.4 update, it says; " 151.0.4 Firefox Release

June 9, 2026 Version 151.0.4, first offered to Release channel users on June 9, 2026" Today is June 13, June 9 was only 4 days ago? I've been having this problem for at least 2 months, how can that be?

Wake up mozilla support! Time to do some work>>>

I'm sorry but it doesn't look like you've updated — at least this question appears to be posted from version about 3–4months old. If you go to about:support page, what do the first lines list as your version/build?

It looks like the updater is no longer able to do the incremental background update, or it's failing on some missing permissions — the easiest is to just go to firefox.com, download the installer, and run it over the existing app to get it up to date.

There's some scheduler–specific advice here in the thread: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1587819 if you want to follow there.

I'm surprised as it said "jbr replied to my comment" is that a real human?!?! Not sure but if so he didnt read my initial comment nor did your auto response because you are suggesting things that I told you Ive already done!

Quit offering fake solutions or fake service offerings and wasting my [edited] time thinking that someone at mozilla is actually trying to help me when there is not!

I will just start making every attempt to avoid all mozilla software, which as you know is difficult because you [edited] have a monopoly. Something your company needs reminded of, "With great leadership comes great responsibility, you have neither". Companies that practice this always win. This makes mozilla a loser. [edited] you very much!

Hi,

Obscene language is forbidden here, according to our rules and guidelines. I've edited your post for now, but such kind of language won't be tolerated here. Please treat this as the first and the last warning.

Please also note that the people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other users volunteering their time (like me or jbr), not Mozilla employees or developers. And your tone definitely doesn't motivate to try to help.

Last but not least, nothing from jbr's posts is mentioned in your question or the follow-up. Actually, you haven't mentioned anything that you have tried to do in order to resolve the issue. While that's fine in geberal (after all, you are reaching out for help), please don't disinform our contributors.

Hello

Maybe, you can try Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-troubleshooting-information-page-fix-firefox

Update Folder: Shows the path to the folder containing the files update-config.json, updates.xml, active-update.xml (if an update was downloaded but not yet applied) and the updates subfolder. Clicking Open Folder will take you to the update folder.

Go to your Update Folder

i apologize that I used harsh language but it still blows my mind that a multi million dollar company is too cheap to employ the manpower required to support their customers -AND- it blows my mind that there are people willing to work for free to allow this company to allow people not on their payroll to support their customers. Where is the quality control? And because it is not possible to verbally communicate, solving problems becomes endlessly difficult and more time consuming. You say "people that answer the phones here" I've never seen an advertised ph# for mozilla. Great job keeping that secret. You also say I havent mentioned what Ive tried to do? Yes I have! Unlike you, I dont have the time to give you a detailed timeline of what Ive done to tshoot mozilla's technical inefficiencies. What your suggesting is exactly what Ive done 3-4 times now. Then you mention for me to; Maybe, you can try Use the Troubleshooting Information page I have, and I searched for hours and found nothing RE my specific problem. nothing. You also mention; "Go to your Update Folder" sorry for the caps "WHAT UPDATE FOLDER!!" There is no explanation! Your people assume I'm an expert just like all you non employees. And that I have the time and patience to sit and experiment with non employees to fix this multi million $$ companies problems.

I admire your willingness to work for free, but that also free's you from being responsible for your work and I allows mozilla to pay their employees top dollar for the work you people do. But I do not agree with what you do. Thank you in advance for attempting to help me, Thank you for including my original text when replying to me Thank you for ignoring my cussing Please stop only listing a [Mark as solution} button and have a {THIS IS NOT SOLVED} button Finally, I'm as done as you are with this wasting time. I will try your suggestion one more time by downloading the most current update, again, to add to all the others I have and it it doesnt work, I will do my best to cease using all mozilla products. But since google owns the monopoly and is the anti-christ there is a fat chance of that.

and please quit donating your time to this evil monopoly. What do they do for you?? Do something that earns you $$ for yourself and stop supporting this lazy over profitted company!

I'm afraid you might have confused threads or even sites/companies. None of the things you refer to have ever been mentioned in the question history, snippets presumably quoted don't appear in the previous replies — and guides to where to find things you're asking for have been provided before, with links and examples. If you're only following the updates via email please do check the actual question history on the web in case you're not getting the email replies in timely fashion or the right order — and also in case you use a translator or a chatbot/assistant of sorts that might be changing the context or inventing phrases incorrectly, please also make a note of it.

According to some market dynamics described I'm even afraid you might have confused different browser vendors? Mozilla relies on and always have been built around open source communities, volunteer contributors and its core principles that are covered in the Manifesto: https://www.mozilla.org/about/manifesto/ — it's literally the opposite of the Big Tech you're hinting at, having no monopolies in any markets or "owning" anything anywhere in the platforms or ecosystem besides a portfolio of similarly free and open solutions. You should check the documentary on the foundations https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_Rush one day, it's now available remastered in 4K on youtube as well. (That said if you're a customer using any of the paid products you'd have been assigned the appropriate ticket, but since you've ended up here in community forums, I assume you don't have any commercial plan attached to your account that would have come with the service level assurance you're after.)

As you can see folks with enough context to help you are still willing to do so here, no matter your discounting their impact, expertise, or the amount of air quotes you need to use to insult everyone as a form of asking for advice.

Since none of the initial troubleshooting questions were answered, I only have one recommendation to avoid any access/privilege issues of the updater process: seeing you're on Windows, there's Firefox available from the Microsoft Store as well, which would take care of the updates for you in the background along other store–installed software. (It has its own specifics, and given you've hinted at not being interested in the help articles I'll just leave the link here Download Firefox on Windows from the Microsoft Store for anyone else having the same issue, in case they want to consider moving their profile over to that distribution channel — and ask a separate question about the process.)
