Thunderbird fails to complete setup for GMAIL account on Windows or MAC, says invalid username or password.
I have been using Thunderbird for 10+years and was able to set up Gmail accounts without any problem. Currently, there are 3 Gmail accounts configured under Thunderbird and those all are working fine. I needed to add one more GMAIL account, everything seems to go through OK, but near the end, it fails with an error message: "Unable to login at the server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password."
I also installed Thunderbird on MAC and repeated the same steps to configure GAMIL account and got the same error message.
The same errors occur if I configure APP PASSWORD in Gmail and then try to configure GAMIL account in Thunderbird using APP PASSWORD. Still got the same error message.
HELP PLEASE

Thunderbird should be using the authentication method oauth, not password of any sort for gmail.
This process has some requirements that those that change default security settings tend to crash into. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-conversion-google-mail-accounts-oauth20
Per the instruction in link: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-conversion-google-mail-accounts-oauth20
- Ensure that your Thunderbird Gmail account is set to OAuth2 – YES, for both incoming and outgoing servers.
- Cookies and JavaScript: Both are enabled.
- Check if the proper authentication tokens have been saved: None are saved.
- imap://imap.gmail.com (imap://imap.gmail.com): Not saved
- smtp://smtp.gmail.com (smtp://smtp.gmail.com): Not Saved
it still fails with an error message: "Unable to login at the server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password."
