Hi,

I updated Firefox from version 21 to 26 (the PC is running Win 7 SP1 x86) and subsequently Firefox now displays two title bars (quite literally, I have two sets of Minimize, Maximize, and Close buttons) as well I am unable to browse to any page nor will any additional window such as Options, Downloads, etc open. I'd love to add Troubleshooting Information but that won't open either! Here's what I've tried so far:

1.) Uninstall Firefox and reinstall FF26 (no luck)

2.) Uninstall Firefox completely with Profile Information deleted as well and subsequently reinstall FF26 (no luck)

3.) Uninstall Firefox completely and deleted the \AppData\Roaming\Mozilla folder along with \AppData\Local\Mozilla folder as well and subsequently reinstall FF 25.0.1 (no luck)

4.) Uninstall Firefox completely and deleted the \AppData\Roaming\Mozilla folder along with \AppData\Local\Mozilla folder as well and subsequently reinstall FF 3.6.28 for kicks (no luck program doesn't even launch)

Considering I've tried to delete every mention of Firefox and this problem still occurs I'm guessing something other sort of file is either present or corrupted.

Any suggestions?

Hopefully you get a backup of your bookmarks!

I think you've covered nearly everything. First thought at this point:

Could you rename or delete the Firefox program folder and then reinstall (no need to uninstall)? Some installers places extensions and plugins into that folder, and they are left in place during an upgrade or reinstall.

The folder is either:

32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
