Next time I open Firefox, there is a window saying it is sorry but it can't do what I ask until I close the connection to the previous websites, even if it's been hours since I closed them.

Thank you, Jay. I followed the links you sent, read the article, tried to figure out what to do inside the profile folder but found, in both, that I am 'way over my head trying to do those things so now I know to get someone to help hands on. As the article mentioned, sometimes FF opens two windows instead of one and so I am inclined to think I have an invader. Thanks again. koan

Make sure that Firefox closes properly and that there isn't a hanging Firefox or plugin-container process left in the task manager.

Try to use "Firefox/File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.
