That should read, "no notice given". I will be logged onto multiple sites say Fox News and SWAT_Portal (website for Crossfire Mod to Freelancer) will be reading articles or doing other functions and when I go to change to something different on the site will either get a notice I am not logged in (Swat_Portal) or find I can't make comments (Fox News). Or if I am on the Crossfire server, logged on and playing, suddenly I am not longer logged in. No notices given, server has not crashed, other players remain up. I have cleaned cookie and cache. Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware find nothing, my connections does not drop, there are no noticeable interruptions. I am at a loss.

Websites remembering you and automatically log you on is stored in a cookie.

  • Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.

Do not use Clear Recent History to clear the "Site Preferences" and the "Cookies" as this doesn't take exceptions into account, but removes all specified data.

Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

Hello gearhead10,

The problem could be in the cookies, is Firefox set to accept cookies? You check this by clicking the Firefox button (Or menu Tools) and selecting "Options". In the pop-up window, click Privacy. If Firefox isn't set to accept cookies, enable it. That said, you do have quite some plug-ins running, could you try to disable all of them, save for Shockwave Flash 11.5 r502?

You can inspect and manage the permissions for all domains on the about:permissions page.

If clearing cookies doesn't work then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies is corrupted.

Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

I have FF set to clear the cookies when I shut down. I have no problem logging back on when I come back online. The problem is staying logged on. If I close a site but don't shut down and come back to it later that same day I will be remembered and auto logged back on. but there seems to be some sort of time frame in play. I logged on to both Fox news and the Swat_Portal site at 12:57 today. 40 minutes later I was no longer logged in even though I had been active on the site. I have disable several of the plug-ins to see if that helps but some are needed for other things to work correctly. Thank you for your reply.

Additionally, where do I find this: Firefox Profile Folder? I have looked on the C: drive/Program files (x86) in the Mozilla Firefox folder but can not find that folder there. I have looked in the User section, Program files, and other and have not found it. When I do a search for it the only thing that comes up is your reference to it. thank you again. Oh, everything I did that I mentioned before had no effect, I am still "timing out" or being logged of with no indication of that being done until I attempt to do something on the site I am on. thank you.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder

The "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K and the "AppData" folder in Windows Vista and later Windows 7+ versions are hidden folders.

Ok, one last question I hope. When I rename or delete these files, are new ones created by Firefox and should I delete all these or just the first one? Ok, that's two questions.

cookies.sqlite cookies.sqlite-shm cookies.sqlite-wal

Thanks for all the help!

The cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal file and temp files used by SQLite and should go away when you close Firefox and if not then remove them as well.

Well I had some limited success. I followed you tips above and deleted the Cookie.sqlite file. I restarted my PC with the plug-ins that I disabled still disabled. I was able to log onto Fox News but only remained logged on for about two hours before I found I was no longer logged on. I logged onto the Crossfire community site, www.swat_portal.com, and this time I was able to remain logged into the site for about six hours before I found I was once again not logged on. Today, I am doing good to stay logged on for 45 mins before I find I am once again no longer logged on. Once again, there are no notices advising me that I am about to be logged off. I find out when I attempt to change pages or access member only functions.

One thing I did notice was that I could be logged onto this support site for as long as 12 hours and not be dropped until I manually log off, even thought I had been dropped on the other sites. I use to be able to do the same thing on the other sites, remain logged on until I manually logged off.
