The Navigation toolbar has the 'back one page/forward one page' icon - but the little downwards arrow which was attached, which would let me select a page from recent history has disappeared. What has Firefox 4 done to it?

If you go to the Firefox support pages, the following icons are shown:

[[Navigation Toolbar items|http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Navigation%20Toolbar%20items?s=go+back+one+page&as=s]]

Note, the top Icon under Windows 7 has the little downwards arrow shown.

I tried the various fixes that the troubleshooting page suggested:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Back%20and%20forward%20or%20other%20toolbar%20items%20are%20missing

Note, the equivalent icon shown under 'Showing the Navigation Toolbar' is how my icon appears.

I cannot get the arrow to appear, even when I set my toolbars back to their defaults.

Do I have to revert to Firefox 3... as I used this feature a lot.

Right click the Back/Forward buttons to get the list of sites you visited.

There is an add-on you can install which displays that arrow on either button, but it's only cosmetic. See https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/backforward-dropmarker/
