This is crazy. We don't turn it on by force, it is on demand.

It's very annoying that there isn't a one-click feature to disable AI (as I am aware of) and that it requires a change to about:config which is used by power users (more advanced users) and can fully change the browser.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to remove the AI chatbot completely in Firefox:

  1. Open about:config. If it tells you to proceed with caution, ignore it and continue.
  1. You should see a search bar, simply copy this: browser.ml.chat.enabled and search it up in the page.
  1. There should be one specified result. The default value is true (this specifies if the AI chat should be enabled), now you can either double-click the false value or click the button with the double reversed arrows. (Basically, anything to make it false)

You're done. You turned off the internal Firefox AI chatbot.

Keep in mind: This just turns off Firefox's internal AI chatbot. It doesn't turn off in any way, shape or form the AI of other search engines that Firefox uses such as Google or DuckDuckGo (the web browser uses the search engines, so the AIs that they include aren't internal Firefox AI chatbots)

For turning off Google's/Bing's/DDG's AI which is pretty important since Firefox acts as a wrapper (serves you) them, you need to turn the AI of the search engines, done with these tutorials:

You can turn off the AI results of Google. You can turn off the AI results of DuckDuckGo (DDG). You can turn off the AI results of Bing (not Edge).

Now, you're done. However, theoretically, you're not done scrubbing the AI out of your Firefox usage. You may be using other search engines within Firefox, which needs to have AI turned off too. You may be using the Wikipedia search engine, which may implement AI summaries sooner or later of certain topics. Not even mentioning the AI that other sites of the net implement. But, that's away from the original question, just block the internal AI and the search engine AI (which you should do, since that's the main part of Firefox) and you'll be away from the AI in your searches.

TL;DR: You can turn off Firefox's AI chatbot, but that is 1/4th of the actual job to fully scrub AI off your search results, you also need to turn off the AI of the search engine (Google, Bing, DDG etc.), in other words, the content. To go one step further, disable AI in other search engines you use and other Mozilla products you use like MDN.

You'll never truly get 100% away from AI these days.

Thank you.

It is a sign of how little people want this slop that the only way to get it in front of some of us is to have it there by default and there's no obvious way to turn it off - the "You can also select the more menu Three dot menu framed from the AI chatbot panel and select Hide shortcut when selecting text" in the official help doesn't work because there's no three dot menu here (presumably you have to start using it first) - in the much more accessible Settings.

Dear Mozilla, the slop providers had better be paying you an awful lot of money to push this stuff.
