In trying to reach at least one Web site (maybe more), https://jabberwocking.com/, I get an error page, Error 523: Origin is unreachable. It also has some tech stuff I don't understand. What can I do?

I have several versions of Firefox and had no problem.

Hello,

In order to better assist you with your issue please provide us with a screenshot. If you need help to create a screenshot, please see How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

Once you've done this, attach the saved screenshot file to your forum post by clicking the Browse... button below the Post your reply box. This will help us to visualize the problem.

Note: If you have problems when uploading the image to this forum, you can use imgur. com or a similar image host if the image appears to hang on upload, then add a link to the image. However, this may delay a response if the external link needs review by a moderator.

Thank you!

Web search: https://www.bing.com/search?q=Error+523%3A+Origin+is+unreachable -Error 523 indicates that there is an issue in the origin web server and it has become unreachable. -Another reason for the error message “Error 523 Origin is unreachable” is an inconsistent DNS

The first reply isn't all that helpful. I have the problem, so your not having it doesn't solve anything. And I can't believe you really would be helped by the Web page of an error message, no doubt standard to Cloudflare. (Not sure why Firefox now invokes Cloudflare, but that could be part of the problem. FWIW, though, I went into Settings, General, Network Settings, and "Enable DNS over HTTPS" is not checked.)

The second reply echoes what I've been reading online. But again, remember that it's over my head. It may be true, since I'm not encountering the issue consistently, and you do speak of an "inconsistent" DNS. But translate this for me. Are this "origin Web server" and "DNA" matters of the Web site I'm trying to reach, not my settings? So are you saying that THEY have to fix it? Please try to be more helpful.

Thank you,

As I had no problem with the website, it could mean that something about your Firefox or computer is causing the issue.

Use these links to create a new profile. Use this new profile as is. Is the problem still there?

To be honest, that's silly, and I'm reluctant to recreate my settings and re-importing bookmarks etc. But seriously, if my profile were corrupt, then I'd be having troubles across the board, including accessing ever so many Web sites. Even access to this one goes down only intermittently (about once a week). I guess I just have to take the error message seriously when it says that the site may be sending out bad DNS at times.

On the other hand, if something at my end truly were blocking the site, it would have to be a specific setting. If you suspect that, it's up to you to to make a recommendation in settings, no? Your response above looks ever so generic. (Oh, we have no clue what's going on, so let's start over with Firefox from scratch.) It's like a Microsoft help person telling you to reinstall Windows.
