Import Email from Linux Mint Mate 20.3 to Thunderbird 91.5. I have been working on this problem since Dec 2021. And I want and need to preserve those emails that have a lot of history, personal and financial. You're help is most important. I have been at a number of Web sites that stated they could help but after some time it became apparent it was all out dated. What I am dealing with is now, I need you're help.

Please keep on mind I am not a Linux Professional. Do not confuse me please.

Thunderbird 91.5. Help, More Trouble Shooting Information, Information Profile Directory Open /home/donald/.thunderbird/xqfvqvc.default-release Select Mail Select Profiles Select Mint Thunderbird Select nt3r4mao.degault-202111105-1529 Select Mail Select Local Folders Now you see all the Email I wish to import INTO T-Bird 91.5

Linux Mint Mate 20.3 /home/donald/Documents/Email Backup/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4maO.default-20211105-1529/Mail Local Folders Now you see all those Mail Folders I wish to Import Into Thunderbird 91.5

I have a new download Thunderbird 91.6 but I am concerned that the Emails that I have accumulated in 91.5 would be lost. Don't want that. Thank you so much for you're time and effort to solve this problemthat.

Additional Comment and hopefully use full. I have been with Linux Mint, and Ubunto (I know bad spelling) for some time. And when I did a new install that Email mail was always imported in to the NEW Thunderbird. Before this fiasco I was using Linus Mint Cinnamon 17.3 with Thunderbird 60.6.1. It worked perfectly. AND now you can imagine how I feel. Did I make a mistake?

I would appreciate an Acknowledgment that this has been received Please.

But it sounds like you are trying to retrieve all the emails created before that installation. Those 'before' emails were stored in a different profile name folder called 'nt3r4ma0.default' and you are wanting to get them into the newer profile name folder called 'xqxfvqzc.default-release'.

Yes.

This is where those 'before' emails seem to be located. BUT as I have already said...you should not have a 'Profiles' folder in the 'Mail' folder. If you have the above then it is wrong. It means at some point in time you copy pasted a backup and put it into the wrong place. Those just appeared. I had nothing to do with the Profiles being located in the Mail folder...

You need to get that 'Profiles' - folder (I've shown it as bold) out of the 'Mail' folder and put it into :/home/donald/Documents folder so it part of the backup. We will use it later to get the correct files.

/home/donald/Documents tells me you are talking about Mint Mate20.3, desk top. It is already there.

/home/donald/.thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-release/Mail/Local Folders This shows those Emails created after Mint Mate install 20.2

/home/donald/.thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-release/Mail/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4ma0.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders This shows those Emails that were created before the installation of Mint Mate 20.2. And there is that pesky Profiles folder that I believe you want me to delete.

/home/donald/Documents/Email backup/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders This shows the path to Emails that were created before the installation of Mint Mate 20.2. 4/3/2022 I have compared both 202111105-1529/Mail/Local Folders. One from from Para. 2 and the other from Para. 3. They are identical in their contents size and numbers. So what do we accomplish. Why not just delete the one in Para 2.

Patience Please.

Then I need to delete or copy and past the Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/xqxfvqzv.default to make room for the one I need to remove from Profile Directory. The space is now taken up with an exact copy of what you want me to move to. Needless to say this is very confusing.

more options

I am finding this hard to comprehend. I must make room for the Profiles in Para 3 (/home/donald/Documents). And then copy and paste from the directory Profiles Para 2 the one you have in bold type. Into Para 3. Is this correct?

more options

I know I am just repeating my self. But I do want to completely understand. Again in Para 3 I will delete all after Email Back up/ Then I will copy and paste from Thunderbird Email Profile Directory Para 2 all after Mail/ into Para 3 all after Email Back up. The end result will not contain xqxfvqzc in Para 3. Do you want me to continue on????

I have spent all morning trying to do as you asked. I removed the /home/donald/Documents/Email backup/ all after Email backup. Profiles/mint Thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folder. I then went to Email-Help-Profile Directory /home/donald/.thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-release/Mail/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4ma0.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders. It will not be a part of or attached to home/donald/Documents/Email backup /home/donald/.thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-release/Mail/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4ma0.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders. I can paste it to the command line but it will only accept not adding to home/donald/Documents. And then what do I do with it. Save it yes but how to save it. I have created a number of folders named them and tried to copy and paste the /home/donald/.thunderbird into them. Now have this copied /home/donald/.thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default on a page of LibreOffice Writer.

Just some useless info. That home/donald/Email backup as found in Documents was done at the time of the Installation of Mint Mate 20.2. And in Thunderbird, Help More Trouble shooting Information, Profile Directory, Open Directory /home/donald/.thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-release/Mail/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4maO.default-20211105/Mail/Local Folders was also created at the time of the installation of Mint Mate 20.2

My use of Thunderbird goes back to 2012. And the last version update was 60.6.1, I found one that was in the fifties Is it time to get those Engineers who are the ones who designed this version of Thunderbird.

I repeat - No. Leave that backup alone.

re: have created a number of folders named them and tried to copy and paste the /home/donald/.thunderbird into them.

I did not ask you to copy paste the .thunderbird folder which is in the 'donald' folder.

re :I then went to Email-Help-Profile Directory /home/donald/.thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-release/Mail/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4ma0.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders. Thunderbird must not be runnng, so if it is running exit Thunderbird. I asked you move just the 'Profiles' folder as highlighted above out of the 'Mail' folder and put it into /home/donald/Documents folder.

That means go to this location:

/home/donald/.thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-release/Mail folder.

In the 'Mail' folder you will see the folder called 'Profiles' - that is the 'Profiles' folder you move.

You're March 31, 2022 /home/donald/.thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-release/Mail/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4maO.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders I need to move from all after Mail/ the Profiles folder. How do I move it. Copy and Paste is the only way I know of. I need to get that Profiles-folder (shown in bold print) out of the Mail folder (shown as Mail/Profiles) and put it in to :/home/donald/Documents folder is it part of the backup. Again Copy and Paste is the only way I know of moving Printed Material from one location to another.

Presently In Mint Desktop Location: home/donald/Documents/Email backup/Backup/Profile Directory. The body is empty there is nothing. Now is that where you want me to Paste Email/-Help-Profile Directory/home/donald/.thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-release/Mail/ Paste and copy all after this point Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4maO.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders in to the open text into the body which is empty. I hope my time hasn't run out.

/home/donald/Documents/Email backup/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4ma0.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders

This sits above a large body of Files one of which is Email Backup. I can’t drag and drop or copy and Paste the above into the Backup Email File. Just sits there. If I open Email Backup there is another Backup Folder it doesn’t accept the above either.

Thunderbird is off which leaves just the above copy and pasted from the Profile Directory to the command line in Desk Top.

This had completely slipped my mind. Until I was searching around on my Lap Top. And Selected Account Settings. Thunderbird 60

Account Settings Thunderbird Server Settings Server Type IMAP Mail Server Server Name imap.zoho.com Port: 993 Default 993

When in Profile Directory, Open Directory IMAP selections are there but never have been selected such as

/home/donald/.thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-release/ImapMail/imap.zoho.com Nothing after this point.

Now does this affect what we have been doing and affect what we will been doing in the future? The files displayed are not the ones we have been looking for.

I just thought I best keep you informed.

Make sure Thunderbird is not running. then copy the 'Profiles' folder and paste it into the 'Documents' folder. So it looks like: /home/donald/Documents/Profiles

It is a backup, but I do not want you to overwrite the folders that are currently in the /home/donald/Documents/'Email backup' folder - all along I have been saying to leave that alone. It already has a 'Profiles' folder for a different backup - so no I do not want you to put the copy into 'Email backup'. Put it in /home/donald/'Documents' folder.

Once you copy pasted the 'Profiles' folder into 'Documents' you have a backup, so... It means you can access the 'Mail' folder and delete the 'Profiles' folder in this location. /home/donald/.thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-release/Mail folder. Delete the folder called 'Profiles'.

Start Thunderbird Tell me what happens. Do you see any mail accounts in the Folder Pane? Do you see any folder and emails in the 'Local Folders' mail account?

When you say profiles folder do you mean Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4ma0.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders. Or just Profiles. Nothing before it or after it. So it would be this Home Location: /home/donald/Documents/Email backup/Profiles.

I did not delete my my Back Up. I am assuming you still be leave that there is an entry in Documents Back Up. My 04062022 explained that there was no way to drag or drop -copy or paste /home/donald/Documents/Email backup/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders. When you move/copy the 'Profiles' folder, it automatically moves/copies everything it contains. You can move that 'Profiles' folder to the desktop if it is easier. I just need to know where you put it.

Frm :Donald Nelson 04112022 09:31 What I tried to do was copy and paste /Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4ma0.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders into Email Back Folder and to the Desk Top with Email and the Profile Directory running and closed. Neither made a difference. It would not allow it to be Pasted. Paste was Grayed out. Not Available. The only location that it would allow the above to be Pasted was the Go To and changes when I Paste the above into it, it became Location. I have we run out of options? Do I need to give up and realize that those Email files will remain but not use able.

/home/donald/.thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-release/Mail/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4ma0.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders

All the Emails were displayed. Those that we wanted to pickup before the install of Mint Mate 20.2 and those that I have created after I installed 20.2. But still they do not paste to the Desk Top or to Email Back Up Folder.

Frm Donald 4/14/2022 11:58

I have found something that just may solve our problem.

Entire Donald’s Home and we have the desk top and in the upper right corner there are File, Edit View, Go, Book Marks and Help.

Last evening I was shutting down my system and was nosing around search for what I know not what. Started with File, then Edit, and the last View and there is Hidden Files. There is .thunderbird, most of which I do not understand except for.

xqxfvqzc default release, I click on it and now we have Mail, I click on it and now we have Local Folders and Profiles, click on Local Folders and we have those Emails that were sent or kept after the installation of Mint Mate 20.2, I don’t think we want that.

So now I select Profiles, next I select Mint Thunderbird and now we have nt3r4maO.default-20211105-1529, I click on it and now we have Mail, I click on it and now we have Local Folders, I click on Local Folders and all those Emails that were sent or received before the installation of Mint Mate 20.2 appear.

So now we have in Email back up .thunderbird/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4maO.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders Which contains all of those Emails sent and received before the installation of Mint Mate 20.2

This is now installed in Email Back Up I hope it stays there. Time to reboot. Well it takes some fiddling. But when I select Email Back up and then go to View, Select Hidden Files .thunderbird appears click on it and Profiles appear, click on it Mint Thunderbird appears and then/nt3r4maO.default and so on. I guess I could say it is in Email Back up.

As I click on each item it goes to the next. And when done it all appears in the the Location Heading. Where we go from there I don’t know.

re: and there is Hidden Files. There is .thunderbird, most of which I do not understand except for xqxfvqzc default release, I click on it and now we have Mail, I click on it and now we have Local Folders and Profiles,

We have establised that a long time ago. That is your working thunderbird profile location. Same as this: /home/donald/.thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-release/Mail/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4ma0.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders

I asked you to move the 'Profiles' folder and put it in the 'Documents' folder. I also suggested you put it on the Desktop. But it seems you have just moved it up the directory.

We have had numerous comments.

This was the original backup:

  • /home/donald/Documents/Email backup/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders

This is your current thunderbird profile folder.

  • /home/donald/.thunderbird/xqxfvqzc.default-release/Mail/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4ma0.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders

I asked you to move the folder called 'Profiles' and put it in 'Documents'

Now you say you have :

.thunderbird/Profiles/Mint Thunderbird/nt3r4maO.default-20211105-1529/Mail/Local Folders

Which sounds like you have moved the 'Profiles' folder up the directory into the .thunderbird folder. But it is not a backup .

As it seems you have managed to move the 'Profiles' folder into the .thunderbird folder. Lets try this - move the folder called 'nt3r4maO.default-20211105-1529' into the .thunderbird folder. Then rename the folder called 'nt3r4maO.default-20211105-1529' to say 'nt3r4maO.default-release' you just need to edit the latter part.

Then at least we would have both of the 'profile name' folders in the correct location.
