Finding and transfering the Other Bookmarks file

I've recently changed to a new computer after my old one died and I'm in the process of moving across my firefox data from my old harddrive to the new computer. I've managed to access the appdata file and move across my bookmarks - places.sqlite / favicons.sqlite - and then restore the most recent backup, however anything that was saved under the old 'Other Bookmarks' file (which was a lot of unsorted bookmarks) doesn't seem to have been saved in the backup (most recent backup was just before my old computer crashed). Does anyone know if the 'Other Bookmarks' is located in a different file I need to copy across?

Many thanks for your time and assistance, greatly appreciated.

All bookmarks should be in a compressed .jsonlz4 backup including the "Other Bookmarks" folder. If places.sqlite didn't have them an also the most recent backup not, then you need to find an older jsonlz4 backup.

  • Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup -> Restore

The name of an automatically created JSON bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once. You also see this count in the Restore menu drop-down list.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.

Thank you for your reply. I've had a look and my most recent backup from late May (which has the highest item count) still doesn't contain the 'Other Bookmarks' contents. I had a lot saved in there after it became the default dump spot with the firefox update that moved things there. All the other jsonlz4 backups only have a slightly lesser item count.

May I also ask, anything that was saved on the old toolbar isn't recoverable is it?

Many thanks,

How did you check the compressed .jsonlz4 bookmarks backup? Did you decompress the backup or did you restore the backup?

The tool you used may not have included the other bookmarks folder.

Just restored it but happy to try anything
