I want to ADD a UserId to the dropdown menu in Windows 7 and Windows 10.

I am trying to get Firefox to store an additional USERID (not Password) in the dropdown menu for logging into a website(S). I use different UserId's for different websites and would like to have them listed in the dropdown menu so I can click on them instead of typing them in everytime I visit a website.

The dropdown menu that asks if I want to store login info only includes UserID AND Password. I do not want to store a password.

Hello kathyjoe5,

What you want is not really possible, but there is a way that will come close and might work for you - would you please take a look at this thread :

https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/1202594

And also :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/password-manager-remember-delete-change-and-import#w_viewing-and-deleting-passwords

Any good  ?

The Firefox Password Manager can only stores username and passwords (doesn't accept an empty password). You can set a one letter fake password instead of the real password by double-clicking the password field in the Password Manager to edit this field. Then you can replace the fake password with the real password when you switch to the password field to enter the password. You can set a block exception for this website by clicking "Never Save" in the Key icon drop-down list (click the arrow next to Don't Save to show this choice) to prevent Firefox from asking to update the stored password.

Otherwise you would have to use a form fill extension.

Hence my second link, which shows that an empty password field won't be accepted.

You could try using a form filling add-on. They can be set to global(all websites) or specific websites.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I think what I want to do is only available in Internet Explorer.

Have a great day!

P.S. McCoy: Saw your comment re the other post. Noted and apologise. Thanks!

I hope this doesn't mean that you're thinking aout switching to IE because of this ...... (?)

If you do as suggested by cor-el (enter a fake password the first time you enter a username : one or two characters) you'll be able to do what you want after that. Not that much of a hassle, really ...... Give it a try (?)

The cor-el solution would work for me, but this is for my husband. Trying to make it easier for him....he is not very keyboard savvy. I am very paranoid about storing passwords ANYWHERE. I just want to make it easier for him to hit a dropdown and choose from several userid's , chose one, then enter his password.

So IE might be the answer for him....still searching though

'Couldn't let it go just yet, so I went to see how IE does what you want : save usernames, but not passwords. Thought that once I found out how IE does it, I might be able to find a way to copy that in Firefox (wishful thinking .... ). I can't find that option in IE anywhere .....

An example : https://superuser.com/questions/1295818/internet-explorer-11-how-to-save-usernames-in-forms-but-never-save-passwords-a

And I found this article, that shows that IE does just about the same as Firefox : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17499/windows-internet-explorer-11-remember-passwords-fill-out-web-forms

Could you share with us how you manage to get IE to save just the usernames, but no passwords  ?

As I found out that you are not the only one who is looking for this option in Firefox, it might be a good idea to submit it as a suggestion : https://qsurvey.mozilla.com/s3/FirefoxInput/
