Why are there five instances of FireFox in Task Manager when I open up one instance of FF?
Every time I open FireFox, there are five (5) instance with different memory allocations in Task Manager.

Means you got malware infections or you set and saved to many homepages to cause that many pages to open up. You need to check your settings to see what is going on.
