Firefox continually slows or even stops. Have tried all suggested solutions. Is firefox no longer able to cope with media heavy web sites?

I no longer have the time to constantly close down Firefox given the number of times it totally stops when browsing.

I am not sure whether this is because of gradually changes to the browser or because of the increase in the number of websites that are now media heavey.

In the past I could regularly check news sites and leave tabs open to be able to compare articles etc..

This has now become a daily ordeal. One newspaper web site I am forced to use chrome.

Worse still the bloated use of memory is compounded by the excesses of Thunderbird which now also hangs and sometimes stops all processes.

What has gone wrong?

I am still using the same computer system with Windows 7 professional and Office professional.

But over the past 4 years Firefox and Thunderbird performance has dropped.

Currently having only just restarted Firefox is it consuming 143,972K and Thunderbird 86,696K also just restarted.

By comparison Chrome is using 60,000K and Internet Explorer 12,372K, while Outlook is using 7,872 (ie a 12th of Thunderbird) and Eudora 5,356 (a 13th)

Have followed all the various options offered over the past year for solutions. Nothing seems to return Firefox to being the reliable, and for me preferrable, browser.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

If the problem has to do with web page players, this can help;

Flash block {web link} Never be annoyed by a Flash animation again! Blocks Flash so it won't get in your way, but if you want to see it, just click on it

I have tried most of the suggestions put forward over the past 18 months.

This is why I am posting one last time, because the only way to get a useable service is to constantly close down Firefox, which can take a few minutes as it continues in the back ground and then relaunch.

So my question is, is that over the years of updating etc., Firefox is now so bloated it is no longer an everyday workhorse browser.

2 maybe 2.5 years ago I did not have these problems. But over the intervening months it has got to the point that in no one day am I able to use Firefox and not have any issue.

So I am suggesting is it that with the accumulated updates it has got to cumbersome. This is why I listed the amount of memory it takes compared to other browsers. (And I have graphics disable in Firefox)

And just to add I am now having to restart Thunderbird as well as it also just stops responding.

I dont want to say goodbye to Firefox but cant think it is worth persevering.

HI nimda, What were the results of the suggested support steps FredMcD mentioned? We are happy to help, however since there was no change I can only may inferences about the troubleshooting information. For example, please update your flash player to ensure you are not affected by outdated software, and there was an update to Firefox this week to Firefox 45.0.2.
