What steps should I follow to get a video that uses adobe.shockwave to load properly ?

more options

I've isolated and reactivated my plug-ins, reset Firefox, and instituted malware solutions. I've also followed other steps listed in the support site and have run out of options.

The video player on this particular site has changed its presentation format over time. What used to load slowly, and catch and stop the loading process, now refuses to load, so that the video stops and starts every few seconds. It doesn't matter how long I wait to allow loading.

You only have a problem with Flash on one site?

If you use any extensions that filter content, such as ad blockers or privacy enhancers, have you tested with those disabled? One quick way to test is to view the site in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled (Flash and other plugins still run)

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

Hi jscher 2000,

I restarted in safe mode, and the video on that particular site still stops and starts every few seconds. When I did my previous plug-in check, I found that the site uses Flash; I'm only concerned with information from that site re this problem. I'm not sure what other sites use Flash. So no, there's no difference yet.

Sites that use Flash would include Youtube and other popular video sites. Could you provide a link to a page that has this problem?

This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with the Flash Player plugin. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:

(1) If you have any recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media make sure they are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them temporarily.

(2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash

  • In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"

(3) Disable the protected mode feature. The following pages provide different ways to disable the feature:

Any luck?
