Maybe not be quite the symptoms described but the add-on fixes problems in the places.sqlite database, which contains both bookmarks and history. I would try each of the options it offers.

didn't help. still get the stop script when deleting history and it STILL freaking types in the address bar instead of the spots you think your typing in.

Does stop script come up as a message, can you provide the exact wording. Exactly where and how are you deleting history when this occurs.

If it happens when you use Clear Recent History and you've included cookies then is it caused by deleting cookies created by plugins.

If you use "Clear Recent History" to clear the cookies then Firefox also tries to clear the cookies from plugins like Flash (LSO) and starts a plugin-container process for each plugin and that can add extra time and can cause an unresponsive script error to appear.

Exclude the cookies from "Clear Recent History" to see if that helps.
Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox to remove unwanted cookies and keep the ones with an allow exception.
Make sure that you do not clear the "Site Preferences" as that will remove all exceptions.

What about the typing issue? That is really getting on my nerves!

i think im typing in the space im not. it has me typing in the address bar instead. that is very freakin annoying.

Is this immediately upon opening a web page, which is what you appear to indicate, or after an interruption caused by the script error.

Interesting, I tried several pages and none of them placed the cursor at an input area, what kind of page places you right at where you need to enter data immediately. I tried pages with a search box, a login box. I can see that such a thing might or could become an accessibility issue, particularly for blind person.

Start Firefox in Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

dmcritchie---- it is immediate. the script error only happens when deleting history. BTW it hasnt been hanging during deletion for the last week and a half.

Are you including the cookies in Clear Recent History when that hang happens?
