Vertical tabs keep "getting stuck" (not expanding)

Benjamin Oppermann

I have vertical tabs enabled and the "expand when hovering mouse" option is activated (see screenshot). However, the latter functionality tends to glitch at some point in basically every session. I can't tell if a specific action triggers it, so far it seems pretty random. The glitch is that either the tabs are expanded and won't collapse, or the opposite: they're collapsed and refuse to expand when I point at them. Is this feature maybe still experimental? or something? I'm running Firefox 149.0b5 DEveloper Edition on Garuda Linux (Arch based).

This happens to me too. Manually cycling them out and in with the "Expand sidebar" button will fix it for a while, but they always get stuck again eventually. I'm on 149.0, also Arch based.

Anyone ever solve this? I'm now on 153.0 and it's still a constant irritation.

Nope. That's the reason I ditched Firefox for Floorp. It has vertical tabs as default and I figured if they like vertical tabs maybe they paid special attention to it and fixed it, but spoiler: no, Floorp has the bug too.

There's a *related* bug filed in Bugzilla but only about Windows and only with animations disabled OS-wide. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1987303

The Linux problem is also mentioned in a comment but should be a separate bug report. Please do not mark this as solved (because it's not)!
