I keep losing access to my bookmarks in Firefox
This has happened several times in the last 4 months or so, it had never happened prior to that and I've used Firefox for years. It now occurs when I open Firefox after my computer has either been shutdown, or the computer does a restart. I am signed in to my Mozilla account.

It is strange. You can create a bug report for this.
Additionally, you can start your sync device to see if the bookmarks are synced in other devices.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recover-lost-or-missing-bookmarks This may also help.
I am having the same issue. What happens here is my bookmarks still show on the bar, but they show as grey with no color and the URL is blank. I can restore them using Bookmarks/Manage Bookmarks/Import and Backup/Restore, but this is happening at least once a week on both my and my wifes HP Desktops. I am wondering if it may be related to Iolo System Mechanic, which we both use to keep our computers "clean"? I can't figure out how to post this issue for tech support.

Thanks for reporting this. Your mention of Iolo is worth considering. Is possible, you can disable Iolo in one of your computers and compare the behavior. If no difference regarding Firefox bookmarks, you can report a bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/
I verified that it is System Mechanic. After running the program, it seems that it not only took out the bookmark info, but also stored passwords. Thank goodness I was at least able to restore the bookmarks from and earlier backup. System Mechanic has a Settings feature that allows it to ignore "programs", but it does not accept individual files to ignore, which seems weird. They will not offer support unless you pay for a support package.
Thank you for the further study and congratulate for your success in root cause identification.
I think this is an exact example to show that proprietary software - here is the System Mechanic - is often malware. It controls you and the thing you can do is to use free software.
If you like you can report this malware under Proprietary Sabotage.
