How long it would take to have tab groups functionality on Firefox mobile.

On Chrome Android, the tab group feature is super handy. You can create tab clusters, easily group similar tabs together, and switch between them fluidly. It really helps when you’re multitasking or doing research across multiple topics.

Also, the tab accessibility on Chrome Android is just better. The tab switcher is placed at the bottom of the screen, making it effortless to access all open tabs with just a thumb tap no awkward menu diving or stretching to the top.

My Questions:

1. Is there any timeline or roadmap for bringing tab group functionality to Firefox Mobile?

2. Are there any known efforts or discussions around improving the UI/UX of tab switching such as adding a bottom bar for easier access, similar to Chrome’s approach?

I don't really understand this question; could you clarify it?

  1. In Firefox for Android there are Collections. For me they're basically the same as Tab groups. Why do you need Tab groups instead of using Collections? What's the difference?
  2. In Firefox for Android you can place the address bar (with the tab switcher) at the bottom. Moreover you can switch tabs using a left-right swipe gesture on the address bar. What's so awkward about it?

Yes, there are collections that are similar to tab groups, and yes, we can switch between tabs using the left and right swipes.

However, collections are not as easy to manage compared to tab groups. They don't support automatic tab grouping we have to manually add each tab to a collection.

My main point is that I’m not able to manage my tabs by category easily. All my tabs get mixed up in the tab manager, and there's no indicator to show which tab belongs to which collection in the tab manager. This makes it very confusing.
