Hi, I keep getting the error message "The adobe flash plugin has crashed. Reload the page to start again." when trying to watch videos from youtube & thru netflix. I've tried most of the fixes online: disabling hardware acceleration (works for a few hours then the problem comes back), uninstalling then reinstalling adobe flash & silverlight (worked for a few days, now the problem is back).

I do not have bit guard installed, but I do have noscripts.

Any help is appreciated. I have several error reports, here is the most recent:

ID: 6a4da210-7023-410f-bc26-19c922140803

Just now when i clicked on Automatically add, and clicked install, forefox crashed and closed and I got the firefox plugin container message.

Hello,

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).

To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:

  1. Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
  2. Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
  3. Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
  4. Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.

The image "fpSettings1.PNG" does not exist.
  5. Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
  6. Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
  7. Restart Firefox.

This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

Hi- apologies for the delay. I was unable to log back onto this forum due to repeated crashes. I have had to resort to using Chrome. I had to wait to receive email notifications of these responses to be able to access the thread. I have had numerous crashes since I originally posted this problem.

FredMcD, per your request- here were the most recent "bp-" crash reports before my post: bp-6a4da210-7023-410f-bc26-19c922140803 8/3/2014 3:29 PM bp-13449a23-990d-4e7f-98e0-a20312140803 8/3/2014 1:13 PM (The others before that were from March 2014, then Sept 2013)

And the crashes after my post: bp-6570a43e-c9c0-4638-9700-62e672140809 8/5/2014 6:26 AM bp-a699ef8d-b8ed-4468-adaa-18b982140805 8/5/2014 6:26 AM bp-5fb165cf-8760-4cb7-87ef-ff2fe2140809 8/5/2014 6:19 AM bp-89ca3c49-e017-4ddb-8cdf-aa0332140804 8/4/2014 2:22 PM bp-a3f1f06b-be22-4940-a5d1-a3cab2140803 8/3/2014 3:54 PM

I have tried starting my computer in safe mode, no change- error still occurs. And as I said in my original post, I have disabled hardware acceleration numerous times. It worked briefly at first, then stopped. It no longer has any effect.

Also, the error messages now have changed. When I try to watch a flash video, 2 windows open with the following error messages: "Adobe Flash Player 14.0 r0 has stopped working" and "Unresponsive Plug-in: Shockwave flash may be busy or may have stopped responding. Stop or Continue."

I tried uninstalling & re-installing adobe flash and shockwave several times. No change.

I would suggest removing ALL Adobe flash type programs.

Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows Uninstall Flash Player | Mac

Then reinstall the latest version.

Update your Shockwave Flash v14. http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/ The link for Flash Player is: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

  • Ubuntu Unity {web link}

  • options depends on the package manager and the desktop environment

Go thru the list. and remove Everything from Adobe.

After, reboot the computer. Then see if Firefox has problems. Do not worry about pages not displaying properly, we want to see is FF crashes.

To be clear before I uninstall everything, Firefox is no longer crashing. I'm just getting the "Adobe Flash Player 14.0 r0 has stopped working" and "Unresponsive Plug-in: Shockwave flash may be busy or may have stopped responding. Stop or Continue.

I've visited all the pages that caused firefox to crash and it isn't crashing, just getting the flash player & shockwave error messages. And no videos playing of course.

No crash is good. My last suggestion is to go to Adobe.com, and ask them for more help.
