How to move emails from some local folders from one profile to a new profile

Most of the advice I can see is about moving all account related data from one profile to another new profile. That's not what this is about, I think that it needs more granularity on what is copied but I can't find an explanation of how the indexing of folders is done so I'm a bit limited. Don't care if the solution is file copying or if there is a nice addon to do the job.

Background. Old account closed due to no more service from provider. Large mail file with thousands of relatively unmanaged emails. IMAP synchronisation between other online accounts was problematic so only solution available in the time was to make a complete copy to local folders. This took a few days due to the manual copy being limited in number of emails that can be copied at once. The user is starting again with a new account and a new email provider. Management is now easier and so far being done. The objective here is to use Thunderbird as the client again and provide access to all old emails (for both content and email addresses) but do so in such a way that the user can't confuse the two, so some separation is required. The old profile had multiple accounts, only some of which were required in the new setup.

What I need to do therefore is to move a subset of the local folders in one account on machine A to either:

a) (Ideally) A set of local folders in a dedicated profile on machine B so that the user has to use profile selection at startup to deliberately select the relevant local folders to access them. - A bit like having to visit the filing cabinet in the other room to retrieve something. I realise this makes it harder to cut and paste old content within Thunderbird, but that shouldn't be an issue with the predicted amount of times this will be required.

b) A subset of local folders in the user's new profile on machine B. (In effect copy some of the local folders from machine A to machine B but different profiles) This would make the cut and paste easier but also might not be as clear to the user about what is old and more importantly I suspect is not easily doable with just file copies.

I suspect this was what this question was asking - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1206937 but there wasn't a response to this one and it's the only one Ive found to date that doesn't talk about moving the whole profile.

Thanks for any pointers.

I appreciate that this is free software in all senses of the word but I am surprised that there isn't something in the product a bit more than the profile manager to ease handling of backup and restore between users - simply because the rest of it is so well thought through and well implemented (At least as far as a user can tell).

I would like to transfer all my Bell Canada Webmail folders to Thunderbird. Both email apps are installed on the same Win10 PC. Webmail doesn't appear to have an Export function but does have an option to save the contents of a folder as a zip file containing all the *.eml files. How can these be imported into Thunderbird and dropped into a new folder.

I'm using OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 , Firefox 60.0.2 (64-bit) , Thunderbird 52.6.0 (64-bit) From the system menu, both Thunderbird|About Thunderbird and Firefox|About Firefox show the current release number and a link to the current "Release notes"/"What's new" for that release. If a new release is available, there is also a link to download/install the update. I'd like to read the release notes for that update before installing it.

I did search support.mozilla.org for "52.8" (the release of Thunderbird that I do not have) but the Release notes did not appear.

Would it be possible for the "About ..." dialog to include a link to the Release Notes for the new release ?

TIA, Kind Regards Andrew

Hello,

I want to migrate from Apple Mail (macOS 10.13.4) to Thunderbird 52.8.0. My first try was to use the Tools/Import... function but I received the message "No mailboxes were found to import". I didn't find a way to specify the path to the Apple Mail Folder. When I looked for a solution I found several postings recommending the ImportExportTools. So i exported the folders in Apple Mail to mbox-files (resulting in around 100 files) and imported them in Thunderbird. That looked great at first sight but I recognized that not all messages have been imported. mbox-file 1: 56 of 58 messages have been imported mbox-file 2: only messages newer than 10 years have been imported mbox-file 3: no messages have been imported (all older than 10 years) I thought that only messages which are older than 10 years are not imported but there are older messages which were imported.

Did anyone have the same issue?

I was directed to wipe out the Thunderbird "profile folder" in order to allow it to "re-build" itself, and thus restore its capacity to search through emails, which had been lost after migrating our webmail to new web host. We found the folder (finally) and deleted it! We now cannot access Thunderbird AT ALL, even after multiple trashing it and re-uploading the application again and again. The same error page comes up: 'Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." Are our 15 years of emails, etc, now lost forever and how can we get back onto Thunderbird? PLEASE HELP!

This is with an old Tiscali email account. There is already a question current similar to this but the following information suggests that it is a Talktalk issue. This has happened to me several times over the past few years when I was using an old version of Outlook 2000. I changed to Thunderbird as the only comparable program when Win 10 updates finally made outlook unusable a couple of months ago expecting to see the end of the problem. Now, regularly on Sunday mornings the service stops working and restarts a few hours later, or it has every time until today - still waiting. It has also happened on Thursdays occasionally. My Kindle accesses the mail OK and my wife, using Thunderbird with the same settings but on a Talktalk email using my account also works fine. I use IMAP at the moment on port 143 and changing to different ports does nothing. However, left alone it all comes back later - or has so far. I doubt this is a Thunderbird issue but my very well informed IT wise son is equally baffled.

Most folders have mail but many of the imported folders are empty and should contain saved email on many topics. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am using Windows 7 Pro and Outlook 2003 is installed on the computer using a POP mail server with three accounts set up. All folders were imported, by Thunderbird, into a folder called Outlook Import. I dragged the folders relating to my Wife's account from the Outlook Import folder into my Wife's account. 8 of these folders contain about 3,000 emails but there are 39 folders with no mail at all in them. I don't know if the folders contained emails before I moved them so, I can't say if the problem occurred during the import or during the folder move. I could try importing again but I am not sure how to go about that. I don't want to double the email in the folders that were correctly imported. Thank you very much for taking the time to help us with this problem.
