Firefox sometimes sends small, anonymous technical reports that help Mozilla understand how many people use Firefox each day. These reports help us measure usage and improve performance across devices.
We understand that privacy is personal. If you’d rather not share this kind of information, you can easily turn off these reports.
For more details on Firefox’s data collection, see Manage Firefox data collection and privacy settings.
What is usage ping data?
Daily usage data reports (sometimes called usage pings) are anonymous technical signals sent once a day. They don’t include your browsing history, passwords, or personal data — only that you opened and used Firefox.
For details, see Mozilla Data Documentation – Daily Active Users (DAU) for Android, iOS and Desktop.
What’s collected (and what’s not)
Firefox’s daily usage reports help Mozilla count active users while respecting your privacy.
Collected:
- A technical signal showing that Firefox was opened that day
- The Firefox version and operating system
Not collected:
- Your browsing history or downloads
- Passwords or autofill information
- The websites you visit
These reports are anonymous and used only to understand Firefox adoption and improve stability.
For a technical overview of the data collected in the daily usage ping, see the definitions in the Glean Dictionary for Android, iOS and Desktop.
How does Mozilla use it?
Mozilla uses daily usage ping data to determine the number of daily active users of Firefox.
This data supports Mozilla’s reporting requirements and informs active user estimates for both internal analysis and external reporting needs.
These metrics allow Mozilla to assess Firefox’s reach and understand its usage patterns.
Mozilla’s approach to data collection is grounded in its core values, as defined in the Mozilla Manifesto. For more information on how we collect, use and protect user data, refer to our Privacy Notice.

This change won’t affect other data collection settings, such as crash reports or technical telemetry, which can be managed separately.
