I cleared cache and cookies and websites still will not work, forcing me to quit
One of the websites that has been really bad is Mixcloud. No buttons seem to work. I get an error that it is slowing down my browser. I close the tab but the music won't stop. On Chrome there are no issues, not a surprise, I use Firefox 90% of the time so problems develop over time. When I search for help, I can only find clear cache and cookies, which accomplished nothing. There is no difference. I can't remember off the top of my head other websites giving me problems but for a couple weeks I've been bouncing to Chrome to do basic web browsing.

Hi sulingman, clearing cache and cookies helps with many problems, but definitely are not a universal cure.
Does Mixcloud play using the built-in player or using the Flash plugin? When Flash is being used, there is an additional icon at the left end of the address bar (looks a bit like a small lego block).
You may have seen these standard suggestions before as well:
Double-check content blockers: Firefox's Tracking Protection feature and extensions that counter ads and tracking may break websites that weren't built to operate normally without the blocked components.
Do you see a shield icon toward the left end of the address bar, near the lock icon? More info on managing the Tracking Protection feature in this article: What happened to Tracking Protection?.
Extensions such as Adblock Plus, Blur, Disconnect, Ghostery, NoScript, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin or uMatrix should provide toolbar buttons to manage blocked content in a page. There may or may not be a number on the icon indicating the number of blocked items; you may need to click the button to see what's going on and test whether you need to make an exception for this site.
Testing in Firefox's Safe Mode: In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.
If Firefox is not running: Hold down the option/alt key when starting Firefox. (On Windows, hold down the Shift key instead of the option/alt key.)
If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
- (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
and OK the restart.
Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).
Any improvement?
No improvement. It had been working without issue with add-ons and blockers several weeks ago. It is not using flash. I restarted in safe mode. I disabled content blocking. No difference. I get an error that the page is slowing things down. Clicking stop it, doesn't stop anything. Also when I visit Rotten Tomatoes, I can't log in no matter what I try. I could just use chrome but for some reason I like email in Firefox, and from there there are links... that is giving me a constant hiccup, gotta copy the links and migrate to Chrome. In the past these problems would eventually go away after a couple months and some sort of update.
You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from this domain like history and cookies and passwords and exceptions and cache, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.
If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.
- switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
- do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
