Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS Firefox 123.0 (64-bit)

The browser deletes cookies when closed. Every time I log in, I need to re-enter passwords (they are saved) on all sites, this is certainly tiring. I read about a similar problem from other users, they had the “Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed” setting enabled, but I didn’t.

I keep getting Firefox crash notifications during Windows 10 sessions where I hadn't started Firefox. On some days, I get multiple crash messages, in fact. Is this sounding familiar to anyone?

Been using Firefox for years and I allow the app to update when prompted. Thus, I'm using the current version. This started about 2 weeks ago and I cannot tie it to a specific event.

Thanks!

Hello. I just wonder why firefox connects to bookmarks url's right after you open firefox? Opening page is always set to:about:blank. I discovered this when I want to know some netwrok traffic from my laptop and I wanted to know which software causes that traffic. And then I noticed that only open firefox it takes connection to bookmarks url even it does not open any web pages - because the opening page is about:blank

I recently noticed a number of places on websites where a cursor would appear in a place where no keyboard input is accepted. I've narrowed it down to this:

Define a div like this: <div tabIndex="1"></div>

Style it like so: div {

 width: 200px;
 height: 100px;
 border: solid 2px red;

} div:focus {

 background-color: lightblue;

}

Click inside the div. It turns blue to show it has focus, but it also shows a cursor at the top-left.

This does not seem to happen when you use <div tabIndex="1" /> and it also doesn't happen in other browsers.

I have been struggling with a connection problem both with Firefox and Thunderbird for well over a year, and I would like to make it go away. For Firefox one instance of the problem is then when I click a link on a Google search screen, it may give me a "can't connect" response. This also happens within certain websites involving a "log in then redirect" process (for example a university library access). For Thunderbird, it involves either the periodic saving of email drafts, the sending of email, or the copying of the sent message to the appropriate folder. Email is Gmail using IMAP. I am using Tbird 115.8.1 32 bit and Firefox 123.0.1 64 bit. The problem transcends ISPs (cable via Xfinity, then changed to fiber via Quantum / ATT so it's not the ISP, also, Ethernet cable to the modem), reasonably high speed (around 200 Mbs up and download). The problem never arises when I connect using Chrome. For Tbird, it is set to use imap.gmail.com (port 993), SSL/TLS and OAuth2. Windows 10, dunno what else would be relevant.

Generally, the solution is to "just try again", which gets a bit annoying, but with the Firefox login problem, this can require double or quadruple retries because "retry" causes the web page to complain that they will have to re-send the data (sure please do, then it may report a failure to resend ad infinitum). Offhand I would say this affects maybe 15% of my transmissions. Any suggestions for a cure or more diagnostic information?

Hello,

When I sign in to new websites, they never do keep me logged in. I noticed this problem is present only for services that are working for my friends, that use other browsers, so they can keep users signed in. For the websites that I had been logged in before it stopped working, I'm still signed in and I can enjoy not having to log in every time.

I believe it all started happening when I cleared my cookies once, around half a year ago.

I did however check my settings, and I don't have selected option, that clears cookies after each browser session. My password saving feature works as well.

Right after a Firefox update on or about 3-8-24, when I click on the network icon on the Windows 11 system tray, the network icon in the Quick Access area is no longer there. But when you click on the network icon you see some soft of video player controls if you have a video open in Firefox, and the network icon is gone! I need to have the network icon restored. And BTW, when clicking the pencil icon to add something to the quick access, there is NO network icon to be added! Its not there, in fact, the "add" is greyed out, and the option for adding "network" no longer exists. I don't really like the video player controls that show up like in the photo, and would like to be able to make that go away.

I can't get to my gmail account if I go to firefox as a search and enter the single word GMAIL. Before anything else is entered, I end up at my wife's account. Why should that be and how to get to any other email account. I have the same problem with CROME except there it appears to be bound to MY account - the word GMAIL must trigger some fixed, prior established, link that was not intended. The fixed link in Firefox predates 115. I rarely use CROME. The Firefox linkage was very strange, but I mostly accessed MY account via Thunderbird until this also looked like a problem. Is there a way to break this fixed linkage? Thank you

Looking at your guesses, it is 115.8.1 according to my inspection, W7 is correct.

WED 21FEB24 The urgent issue is that in the last few weeks, many web pages do not load content, just a grey or white screen. Some will load the header. I am the Executor for someone's estate, and I am having this trouble with some financial websites that I must access to do the job.

Its been many years since I upgraded anything. It might be that Macintosh Firefox 78.15.0 esr (64 bit) and Thunderbird 60.9.1 are the newest revs that work with OSX 10.11.6 El Capitan. I have a 2011 MacBookPro.

I don't like the changes in the user interface that Apple put into OSX after El Capitan. But I may be forced to upgrade. Too late in life to learn Linux.

Maybe the minimalist solution is to upgrade Firefox. But that may require upgrading OSX, and Apple has made it really hard to do that unless you go to the very newest. OTOH I don't know if the newer OSX will run on my 2011 MacBook Pro. If I clicked on "software update" in About This Mac, what would happen? would it just start doing it, or tell me about it first?

The last time I upgraded something, probably Thunderbird but maybe it was Firefox, I had to learn a complicated process to copy & save the User Profiles (they are in a hidden directory), and then install them into the new rev. I don't want to go through that again. I just want to run the dmg file.

There used to be a Mozilla web page with all the versions & you could download the dmg file you wanted.

If I still have problems, I would have to buy a much newer computer. A several year old MacBookPro. But I don't like the "new" disk formatting method Apple created. It saves space by not actually making copies of files, but uses a pointer to one copy. So there is a single point of failure, which makes copies pointless. I want to keep using OSX Extended (Journaled) and I would have to have the seller of the computer do that for me, before I used Migration Assistant to put my stuff on it. I also hate the welded-on hard drive; being able to pull the drive is the best "broken hardware" solution.

I don't recall if El Capitan has the "OSX Recovery" system or if that happened in a later rev.

I use SuperDuper to make a clone of my hard drive as a backup & archive. I wonder if I could connect a copy on an external drive and then startup using the external copy. Then I could upgrade Firefox and see if it works, then do the same for OSX if necessary, and Thunderbird.

Suggestions & how-to info needed. TIA
