Every time Firefox throws out an update, it's a blind gamble as to whether the tabs, that were such a labor to get back below the bookmark bar after the LAST update, will appear again back at the top. Somehow the userChrome.css gets jazzed or some other thing is different. Then, suddenly, all you see are desperate people posting about how to get the tabs back where they belong. For the love of God Almighty on a roller coaster, isn't anyone at Mozilla thinking that it might be time to just make this a setting? I know I'm not the first person to request this. Which is all the more reason to make it a priority. Please. Shake somebody.

I always have automatic updates enabled, using latest Firefox version. I have enabled the options 'Open Previous Windows and tabs' or in earlier versions it was 'restore previous sessions' on my system windows 10 pro from past 2 years.

I have lost about 15+ precious tabs in firefox (1 week of my research work). Even in history it is not showing those tabs.

I was doing my research work / thesis, gone through about 500+ webpages / articles and selected the best, and aligned the tabs in sequence. Today i have opened the 'Private Window' doing some surfing, After few minutes I closed my 'Firefox window of research' as that was using 'too much' amount of ram. After 15 minutes i have closed the 'Private Window' also.

When i opened firefox again all my tabs of Research Windows (1 week of my work) are gone, not even in history.

I must be using Google Chrome for that because chrome does not have any issues with 'Restoring Sessions' with 'Incognito Window'.

if I "Open in New Tab", how can I (in that new tab) eliminate the address of the 'opened from' tab which always appears after a question mark?

For example, a BBC news article cites a report from the U.N. Opening the link to the U.N. report in a new tab leads to an address such as “http://www.un.org/budget/?bbc etc” when what I need for citation is to the UN report is just “http://www.un.org/budget/”. In citing reports for an article it is time consuming to open in a new tab, highlight the actual address (but not the ? and referred-from address which follows) then open the actual address in a new tab so it can be entered as a footnote in what I am writing. I would like the address to open in a new tab without the referred-from info.

Hi

Firefox 72.0.2 Win 8.1

When I open a new tab, the whole page doesn't load until I select that particular tab.

Is there any way of loading the content of a tab completely without having to select it, in the same way as the content would load if I open in a new window instead?

Foe example, if I were to load an Amazon page in a new tab, some of the content loads, but the page waits for the tab to be selected before loading everything else.

Many thanks

Mr M

Hello,

Since installation of Firefox 73 - after two weeks out of home -, whenever I middle click on a link, the link opens in two tabs. I tried with:

- No extensions: this seems to fix the problem... - Fresh profile (mine was from 2008 or something like that): do not fix problems (but shrink my profile, nice :)) - By enabling extension one by one, restarting the browser each time: I could not find a "guilty" extension. When it seems to fix the problems, it reappear, not with the same extensions.

I don't have a clue at what is failing.

I tried by disabling the "open new window in new tab", but this still fails.

Is there a way to trace this problem ? (or fix it).

It doesn't make sense. Maybe people want a new tab to open up to something besides a blank page or the Firefox home page. Other browser's give the user more freedom when it comes to this. I recently switched over to Firefox and would like to stay, but if this something that can't be fixed I might have to find a new browser again.

I pinned a tab for https://us3.webmail.mailhostbox.com/appsuite/ and when Firefox starts it (almost?) always starts the tab as HTTP not HTTPS so I get a warning when I am about to log in and I have to manually change it to HTTPS. I've unpinned the tab, changed it to HTTPS, and re-pinned it, but the same thing happens again on next startup.

I have “struggled” with performance issues due to tab management for years. On the switch to Quantum, I felt the loss of Session Manager in particular, and finally settled on OneTab. On my work machine (Windows), I make semi-regular profile backups, and every once in a while I archive the current backup. On the upgrade to FFX 70 in October 2019, I lost all OneTab entries. (I apparently was not alone.) I immediately archived the most recent profile backup. I have tried a couple of times since then to figure out how to retrieve the OneTab data from the profile archive, but have always failed. I tried again this week, and am still failing. I contacted the OneTab development team via their website, but they never responded. Their information at https://www.one-tab.com/firefoxRestore is outdated.

In the archived profile, under browser-extension-data\extension@one-tab.com I find the file storage.js.migrated, which was created when the extensions changed their storage location to the IndexedDB. It is dated to March 25, 2019. I could retrieve entries from that file, but I would not recover the many tabs saved between March and October 2019.

This week, I uninstalled Firefox, set the current Firefox profile aside by renaming it, extracted the October 2019 profile to make it the current profile, went offline, installed Firefox 69.0.2, started Firefox, and displayed the OneTab overview page. Unfortunately, it was empty, so I restored the current FFX version and profile.

After more research, I very hopefully reviewed the instructions given at: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1275126

I then performed them carefully using the folder from the archived profile, but on restarting Firefox, I got the same result, an empty OneTab overview page. The sqlite file from the archive under storage\default\moz-extension+++2ce1f1a7-d4cf-41cb-b92d-3d450b7812b4^userContextId=4294967295\ is dated October 8, 2019, but is only 56 kB. When I open it in an editor (like Notepad++), it does contain text snippets recognizable as references to many of the tabs I had stored.

How can I recover the information from this profile archive?

My desire to use OneTab faltered after this incident and their lack of support, but I have been putting off reducing the number of open tabs until I recover my lost tabs. I am also open to any suggestions what to use for tab management after I recover.

In the past, when I wanted to go to a tab I'd opened previously, I'd type a keyword in the awesome box in the taskbar. A drop-down box with possibilities appears. I'd get 10 search results, 5 new, some historic and one or 2 the ones I might be wanting to switch to. For these last ones, there'd be a grey icon on the left, so that I'd know which to click on. With FF75, the format has changed. For existing tabs, there is no icon, but the option 'switch to tab' is indicated to the right of the tab address. That is OK for a short tab address, but when it is long, like the one for this page, viz: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/desktop/tabs/form?search=In+FF+75%2C+why+doesn%27t+awsum+box+have+icon+to+identify+tabs+already+open%3F&step=aaq-question the option 'switch to tab' is way to the right and can't be seen as the drop-down box is fixed, can't be dragged wider, text in box can't be moved. To take the guesswork out of which to select and to avoid opening a new tab, PLEASE can we have teh indicative grey icon back again!
