Firefox won't open after unknown update

This morning, my computer (Windows 10) had some sort of update that caused it to restart. Upon restart, neither BitDefender nor Firefox would open without crashing. I reinstalled both programs to see if that helped, but it did no good. I then completely uninstalled BitDefender, but Firefox still wouldn't open. I can't even open it in Safe Mode. They're the only programs that seem to be affected. I tried to find out what exactly updated so I could roll it back, but I can't find record of anything. Below is the crash report details that Firefox generated.

I have suddenly become unable to access Amazon Smile through Firefox. Google Chromr seems to work ut I don't really like it. I get the message: Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to smile.amazon.co.uk.

   The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.

This seems strange as I have never had this prolem until today. ps I'm not particularly computer savvy so you'd have to lead me by the hand!

I have worked on it for months, from time to time.

Also, I would like to point out that the Great Mozilla Firefox, seems to be allowing too much freedom (or a lowering of standards) in updates of the software.

Ads and other annoyances that distract me from being able to browse the web in peace are a pet peeve of mine. Take for instance this example amazon prime promotion that loads in its own web page that cannot be blocked by normal means. I do not wish to use amazon prime and don't want to be asked every time I checkout in order to complete a purchase. To make matters worse, the options are deceptively colored much like how bloatware developers word their installation wizards. I want to be able to bypass this page entirely and get redirected to the "no thanks" option every time this page loads. Is this something that can be done so I can shop online without being nagged for unwanted services?

Today, for the 2nd time in a week or so, the “mailto” function has disappeared; i.e., if I click a “Send email” link on a webpage, the Windows dialogue box to select a mail app pops up. When I check the applications setting, mailto doesn't appear in the list.

The first time this happened, I found online instructions to refresh Firefox and select Gmail as the mail client. I don’t mind doing it again, but I am concerned about the problem occurring so soon after the recent refresh.

Hi!

In the past few week I have started having problem playing certain YouTube videos (I see no real pattern except certain channels seem to be more likely to fail than others) in a normal browser window, the video will stop at the spinning circle. It works if I try in an incognito window (with all the same extensions active) or another browser. I have noticed the problem on a Linux Mint laptop as well as on a macbook. On the Linux laptop I tried replacing the built in Firefox with the one from the the Mozilla homepage with no improvement. If I clear history in Firefox it seems to work once or twice and then the problem reappears. I also tried disabling hardware acceleration but no dice. There does not seem to be any difference whether I am logged in to my YouTube account or not. I have even tried reinstalling the computer but the problem does not disappear.

I use Thunderbird mail client If I click on a link for a site with a stored pw in FF password manager now I get a clean new window which has no bookmarks and no saved passwords for anything. In the Flatpak version of Firefox 103.0.2 the resize handles do not appear when you hover over any of the 4 edges of the firefox window unless you hold down the left mouse button, then they appear, but you have to get the mouse pointer just right before pressing the left mouse button. My desktop is extremely laggy for obvious reasons....but dont know why.

Confusing to see so many child tasks under the parent.

Anyone know what I need to do to over come the general slowness etc on my box.
