I switched from chrome to firefox earlier this year because I was TIRED of google chrome and its horrific privacy and security. I'm extremely disappointed to hear that your new CEO wants to further integrate AI into Firefox. If this course is not reversed, I WILL be uninstalling Firefox. I will also encourage all of my friends (whom I just convinced to switch from chrome with me) to switch as well.

I have dealt with the shortcomings of Firefox because it does not integrate AI.

If Firefox is also going to integrate AI, there is absolutely no reason for me to continue using it.

So I've recently seen some stuff on my social media about Mozilla's new CEO talking about pushing AI into Firefox. And WTF?!

Is this some sort of stupid corporate bullshit or just a delayed April Fool's joke?!

There is literally NO CONCEIVABLE REASON for introducing AI into ANY browser, let alone Firefox. I started using Firefox over 15 years ago for the personalisaton features and readily available add ons and to date it's still the best browser I've used.

To my knowledge, a lot of people have recently switched to Firefox in order to avoid the unnecessary/unwanted spyware and bloatware that comes baked into most other browsers and this seems like a massive middle finger to them. The only reason I can see to introduce AI is either because you want to lose users, or are so desperate for cash you're willing to fuck over everything and everyone to get it.

primarily feedback, no help needed.

AI is a financial black hole. Some tech/financial people like it because it is new and exciting. It's speculative financing, like NFTs; it's a new way for money to move around, things to be built, resources to be drained. So, so, so many resources to be drained. But it makes no money. No one wants to pay for it. People primarily do not trust it, or want it in their everyday devices and programs. This article shows the majority of at least the US public have a negative view of AI and its impact on our future.

We do not want environmentally destructive, CPU-resource-intensive, unreliable AI built into Firefox. Firefox has managed to eke out what userbase it has by NOT shooting itself in the foot with user-unfriendly garbage decisions like every other browser. I have been put off by what AI there is already; I believe if it is ramped up, the userbase will jump ship, if possible, or, if left with no other options, simply lose all faith, loyalty, and support.

Please no more AI in Firefox. thank you

I've just heard that the new Mozilla CEO plans to move Firefox towards being an "A.I Browser" over the course of the next three years. I am incredibly upset and disappointed by this.

Firefox been my go-to browser for its lack of built-in bloatware and spyware; for a little over a decade I have relied on this browser and felt secure in its future up until now. I am incredibly frustrated by this direction. At this point, I might as well go back to Google Chrome. I am frustrated, disappointed, and angry about this doubling down.

A.I is bloatware. Anything it can do, I can (and would rather) do myself with minimal effort. It offers no features that I find valuable, and should Firefox move forward with this, not only will I no longer be recommending this browser to my friends and family, I will leave it myself and encourage my friends and family to do the same.

This is a disturbing promise from the CEO, and I hope for the sake of the browser that it is left unfulfilled.

I was upset to learn that Firefox is moving toward the implementation of more AI features. I use Firefox on mobile and desktop, as well as on my personal devices and on my work devices for web development. I chose Firefox over its competitors because of its user-first policies and dedication to an open and free internet - this move toward AI goes directly against this. I hope this message will help to convince the decision makers at Mozilla that their users DON'T want AI and specifically choose them as one of the only non-AI browsers out there!

I don't know who thought it was a good idea to put someone who is pro-AI in charge of the anti-AI browser. I'm on Firefox because it doesn't use AI. You want to add in the most foolish, expensive, environmentally destructive, money sink that none of the userbase wants? Fine. I don't have brand loyalty. You choose personal wealth over the health of our environment and community by shoveling AI stupidity at us, I will drop this browser like a lead weight and switch to the lesser known browsers. I hear Waterfox hasn't bought into the slop yet. Might be time to change over to a more mindful system.

I think you should consider launching your new CEO out of a canon, metaphorically speaking.

If people wanted AI slop shoved in their faces, they'd go use a crappy chromium browser, which is where that stuff lives. We use Firefox because we don't want any of that crap in our browsing experience. "As long as you can trust it" - who does this guy think he is? You can't 'trust' AI, it's not a person, it's a tool (implement) used by tools (inept idiot).

You also can't trust corporations that pivot to AI, either. If you want to double down on anything relating to AI, then double down on keeping Firefox AI slop free, and ensuring that you are the browser for those that need refuge from this crap.

I remember when Firefox really was a nonprofit that survived on donations from its users, rather than just another corporate shill for companies and LLMs.

Be better. You disappoint me.

So, as I’m sure everyone has heard by now, the new CEO wants to make Firefox an “AI browser”. As a long time user, I think I speak for a lot of us when I say WE DON’T WANT THIS. In fact, the reason many of us were here is that Firefox was pretty much the last major browser not to give in to using generative AI for everything. I hope the CEO backtracks on this, or Firefox is going to lose a TON of users and money. Let’s go over the facts.

- Generative AI uses an unsustainable amount of energy and water, and AI data centers are responsible for a lot of air pollution. - AI tools are frequently incorrect, and lead to misinformation being spread. - Data is frequently scraped for AI training without user permission, and leaks are very common. This goes completely against Mozilla’s commitment to privacy, which was one of the big reasons I started using Firefox to begin with.

This announcement is very disappointing, and the CEO really needs to reconsider. Keep Firefox secure. Keep “AI” LLMs OUT.

Whoever they are needs to be taught a lesson in user retention. Allow me to help. Now, in the wide world of the web, there are a lot of browsers to choose from, and while firefox is a big enough fish to get mentioned regularly, it's still rather small in the grand scheme of things. The thing about that, is I would wager the majority of firefox's users are the sorts of people to look at chrome and all the dubious and sketchy things google is doing (including AI integration) and choose better for themselves. Now, what happens if mozilla decides, "hey, we're not enough like google" and start implementing the questionable policies that are in place with chrome (such as AI implementation)? If you said "those people will look at the same stuff that pushed them away from our biggest competitor and leave us too" then congratulations! You're correct, and also smarter than the average ceo. Anyway, someone please get the ceo to reconsider his decisions or I'm going to have to reconsider my own to use firefox.

why does everything have to have AI these days? it’s so stupid! like sorry I want to think and do computer tasks for myself without some water-guzzling, privacy-breaching bot getting in my way. I’m super disappointed that Firefox has chosen to go the way of AI after all the promises it’s made over the years about not being evil like certain other browsers. I’ve willingly put up with various downsides of Firefox (moodle not always loading, difficulties sending gifs in emails, etc) for years now because I believed in Firefox’s commitment to privacy and ethics. clearly that was all for nothing. thanks a lot for ruining the only browser that wasn’t complete slop!

Cheers. See yall on Librewolf.
