CTRL + F not working sometimes

It happened so many times and it's very annoying, after long usage of the browser, CTRL+F doesn't work at all, if I go to Edit>Find the find bar does show, but pressing the shortcut combination does nothing. And please don't tell me to start in safe mode, that's like on every post -_- it's not because of an extension, otherwise it wouldn't work at all. The only thing that worked for me was restarting the broswer, but with 20+ tabs it's not a nice solution. Isn't there an explanation for this? I don't think I'm the only one having this problem.

Note that there are extensions that can cause the find bar not to work.
You didn't add troubleshooting information, so t is not possible to check this.
It could be that the find bar opens, but isn't visible.

Did you try to type text anyway to see if anything comes up?

Does Quick Find work?

  • Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Accessibility: "Search for text when I start typing"

Can't you open the Add-ons bar as well (Ctrl+/)?

You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file.

It works for me so could it be a problem with hardware, a sticky control key for instance?

I have not seen other reports of this so it is probably something specific to your installation. Apparently restarting helps & it only occurs sometimes after a period of use rather than all of the time. This is not likely to be easy to trackdown. You mention after a long usage, is this hours or days of browsing ?

As a trial try creating a new profile. Run that in safe mode and with all plugins disabled. Do as much browsing as possible from that new profile. Does that prevent the problem?

I note you did not provide a list of extensions when writing your question.

I recall a previous case /questions/954835#answer-421772 where FlashPlayer caused such a problem, and so possibly your Shockwave for Director may be implicated in this.

I tried typing but nothing comes up. I saw another post where someone was saying that CTRL+G works for him, and it does too for me.

I had Quick Find deactivated but i tried it now and it works.

I have the Add-on bar always opened.

The corrupt localstore involves restarting, which I know from previous times it solves the problem, so it isn't too much of a solution, or maybe it is but the how do I know if it solved the problem and not anything else? Because it doesn't happens too often.

I kinda like the quick find so I'll stick to it until the need of browser restart or a bsod or a already known solution for this.

Definitely days, but there is a problem, I don't search for something immediately I open the browser, so maybe it doesn't work from the very beginning.

I was hoping for a documented bug or something, I don't think I can use the browser without my precious profile and add ons.

If a restart cures the problem then it does not appear to exist all the time.

As Ctrl + G works it is probably not worth bothering about. If you do track it down it may be due to a plugin or extension that you need.
