My computer says I do not have "sufficient privileges" to update firefox. What does this mean? How can I ever update then?

You probably do not have admin priviledges assigned to the user account you are using in Windows. I don't know commands in Win7 or Vista, but in XP, you go to Start Menu, Control Panel, User Accounts, select your user account (it may have your name or some default name), click "change my account type" and click "computer administrator". If you had "limited" checked before, this is probably all you need to do to fix it and be able to update Firefox. If it's something else, let me know.

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.
