I'd like to know if FF 5.0 sucks less than 4.0.

I'm a long (almost 8 year FF users, but I've avoided 4.0; its user-unfriendly interface sucks, you lose add on compatibility (yes I know things have to catch up), and nothing seems to work as well. I do use FF 4 on Linux because it came with the Ubutnu install, but I'm thinking of dumping it because it's a POC on Linux. I tried FF 4 on Windows and it sucks there too.

I don't know how much longer I can stick with FF if this is what they have planned. I no longer recommend the browser to anyone, while in the past I was a huge supporter..

So, has anyone used 5.0 and is it worth installing, or is it just more of the same?

Firefox 5 is an improved version of Firefox 4, but it looks the same.

Did you try to tweak the UI in Firefox 4 to fit your preferences?

Do you even have to ask? Just look at all the 5.0 problem threads in here, and if that's not enough, just google firefox 5 problems. I really dislike 4 where many things I'm accustomed to are simply gone, or I have to dig them out of about:config, painful to use, but at least there are few problems, that is after you disable compatibility check for add-ons. I'm a tech and I've got all kinds of complaints from users who allowed the 5 update.

Socapex, a lot of the so called problems are of people complaining that some third-party extension (usually a toolbar) is not compatible. Those same extensions were not compatible with 4.0 when it was released and unlike when 4.0 was released the vast majority of extensions hosted on addons.mozilla.org that were compatible with 4.0.1 are compatible with 5.0 already.

thanks for the replies.

Unfortunately, I've tried to tweak the UI, and it's difficult if not impossible to get the functionality that I have with 3.x. Evolutionary UI and functionality changes are easier to handle, but FF 4.0 is a huge departure and sadly, there's no real benefit to it that I, or anyone else I know that uses it, can find. Lord knows there's no benefit to corporate users, who FF threw under the bus. Can you say "moronic"?

Regarding the dissatisfaction, I'm not talking about casual users, but people that know and use browsers far beyond the average user. Some of the idiocy includes small things like the "new tab" functionality, Back/Forward issues, refresh button functionality, the apparently lame add on bar, and the list continues.

I use Windows 90% of the time, Linux 10% and I see no reason to ever upgrade beyond FF 3.6.18 if FF 5 is more of the same (in Windows). Without significant improvements in the usability, if the FF team decides to eliminate FF 3.x as an option in the future. I'm done. I'll no longer use it, won't promote it, and instead may recommend against it.
