i wanted to download the new version, but my security asked me if i really wanted to download from an unknown source. so was i about to be scammed, or why isn't firefox recognized by my security system?
i got an email saying it was from firefox stating i was using an outdated version, and did i want to download the new version. i clicked download now. i am running windows 7, so i get a save it a-box. i save it. then i have to open it run it. when i click on run it, i got a message asking if i want to run something from an unknown source....so i hit cancel.

I don't think Mozilla will send out email to its users and ask them to update Firefox. I have never received such and I have been using Firefox from the day it came out. Users have to use its built-in update or from its website. That email is probably a scam. You should delete it immediately.

To update to Firefox 4, you can use the built-in update system. In the Help menu select "Check for updates"
If you want to download the setup file, make sure you get it from http://www.mozilla.com
thanks for the direction. i will do that. but i also want to know what you think about firefox not being recognized as a source by my security. you best guess, was i about to be hosed?

the only way i've ever updated is because mozilla sends updates just like the one for 4.o. and that's my issue as well. it just sends the .exe file (box) then you have to click on that and it asks if you want to run it the you click on yes and what do you know? it says what the person who thought it was spam sez: could be harmful are you sure you wanna do this? I think it's a IE issue...and everyone i know using a mac doesn't seem to get this message...just PC guys (like me). So what is that all about? I shied away from 4.0 for the same reason and for some of the comments posted about 4.0. Why doesn't the download ask you to "run" after you download it? It's great you replied to that person's question!
I get the same thing! a notice to update from mozilla! one for the previous update and now for 4.0! and i get the same warning after installing the .exe...
