I use ccleaner and somehow my setting got changed and it wiped out my history, except for the past 2 days.

I've got a backup places.sqlite from a couple weeks ago. Is there any way to add the two together?

Also, is there any way to import history without replacing the current bookmarks?

You can save the bookmarks as a JSON backup and restore this JSON backup afterward or use the most recent backup in the bookmarkbackups folder to recover the bookmarks when you replace places.sqlite.

I understand that, but I need to combine them. I assume there is no way. Wouldn't it make sense to have separate files for bookmarks and history?

How often does the bookmark folder update? Is there a way to control this?

The only way to merge history is by using Sync. You would have to create a new profile and place places.sqlite with the old history in this folder. Then you could use Sync to sync this profile with a profile that has newer (recent) history. Best is to only sync the history.

  • New history is only uploaded for the last 30 days.
  • Synced history expires in 60 days.

Once you have a working places.sqlite, you can copy this file to the original profile and posibly restore the bookmarks.

Make you keep a backup of places.sqlite in both profiles and other important data as it is possible that Firefox insists in updating in the wrong way and removes important data.
