Just that, suddenly will just shut down. Occasionally get the crash message but not always. This is a Windows 10 64 bit PC

Have followed instructions for similar events: Disabled all extensions and add-ons Uninstalled all estensions and add -ons Disabled hardware acceleration Started in safe mode - never actually replicated it in safe mode but then it can go quite a while without happening, other times it happens every 5 minutes. Uninstalled and re-installed from fresh Looked for any Mozilla folders to delete in Program Data, Program files and Program files (x86) but there weren't any after uninstalling. Still happening, driving me nuts especially after just having spent ages solving a different firefox problem on my wife's laptop. Edge just runs smooth as silk unfortunately. Nothing worse than gettig halfway through filling a form/booking something for it to just close down.

Hi, have you by chance been monitoring the Windows Task Manager ? If not please do so and look for excessive ram usage of 2gig or more and High CPU usage of 90% + and if you have a a Temperature program see if excessive heat on your core and or your video card.

Please send the crash reports including the bp- as pictured please 5 or less.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Hi,

No I haven't but I will do now, although I have noticed a brief surge in demand on something just as it crashes, just from the fans kicking in (Case fans I think but could be graphics card) which doesn't usually happen with just regular browsing. So I guess something has caused and increase in temp there. I'll keep an eye on it.

Hi, Crash Reason : PR_MD_PR_POLL | mozilla::net::nsSocketTransportService::Poll

Basically as best as I can gather it is a shared .dll with Windows that is crashing.

Started in safe mode - never actually replicated it in safe mode but then it can go quite a while without happening, other times it happens every 5 minutes.

Not at all sure of a fix but please try safe mode as there is no information about your extensions or 3rd party equipment installed, So maybe disconnect any 3rd party equipment, printers, card readers,  : run in Safe Mode and if it does not crash then the above will be the answer or it is extensions : Try Firefox Safe Mode to TEST & see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

It is under Start Menu --> Windows Administrative Tools --> Event Viewer. 30/07/2018 22:07

Please also monitor Windows Task Manager for Excessive Ram or CPU usage.

Someone else may come along that knows this so post back with the information please. I am getting way to much information for me to figure it out.

It can sit there all day idle and sometimes goes a fair while without closing down when using it. But anyway, I'm afraid I have to give up on a program I've been happy to use for years but it is totally unusable now. System otherwise rock solid, free of any Malware and nothing added apart from updates for a long time.

I filled a bug for this crash, because i can't see any obvious reason that it is crashing, so we should investigate.

The bug is at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1480791

mhk1058, can you please create an account on bugzilla, and watch that bug report. It is very possible that the developers will need some additional information from you to diagnose and troubleshoot this bug, and if you are in that bug thread than it will make it much easier and we can get this corrected ASAP.

Thank you for all the help so far!
