Here is a short description of the Step by Step scenario leading to my issue:

1- After a restrat of my computer, on a brand new windows session, Firefox was unable to Start 2- I rebooted again my machine and tried to start Firefox 3- I add a message from firefox saying there was an abnormal close of firefox and asking me to refresh 4- After the firefox refresh I lost : - All my saved passwords - All my bookmarks ....

Can you help me to recover those?

This is very critical to me.

Regards,

Guillaume

I have copied "logins.json" from OldFirefoxProfile and replaced it in . . . . .

key3.db [v58+] key4.db and logins.json : These are the Password files. Copy Both !

Hi, Is there a folder on your Desktop called OldFirefoxProfile ? If so great if not please look here to see if there are 2 Profiles in the folder. You're looking for the oldest dated folder of 2.

If not they be gone. fyi for the future :

Let us know.

Hello Pkshadow, Thanks a lot for your feedback.

I haven't notice but yet ther is one OldFirefoxProfile on my desktop.

I found a "logins.json" which I will replace in C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ if it is the correct methode

And a bookmarks-xxx.json that I will interactively import.

So I should be fine by now.

Thanks again

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.

I all thanks a lot for your returns.

In fact I still have a problem I have copied "logins.json" from OldFirefoxProfile and replaced it in C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

The passwords are not retrieved in the firefox UI when an open of the copied logins.json in Notepad ++ looks ok and show all my previous passewords (encrypted).

What is the correct method to backup the logins.json from OldFirefoxProfile to C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles?

Good to hear, The key4 file is now used by the current versions of Firefox. It will be created from the old key3 file when needed.
