why does nothing work here either?

I wanted to find out if you all was going make us upgrade to 10 or not. Nothing else works on Vista anymore, unless I buy 7 or 8 and then 10 just to be able to upgrade, I've never seen this before. Windows update doesn't work, along with everything else online. So far Firefox seems to be working and now I'm trying to download Thunderbird for email and it stalled while trying to ask a question. This is the only link that worked, does Firefox require that new OS too? I already told MSN that I wll not buy into that and this is my last try, if I still get zero results then this damn box will end up in the river or landfill which ever I get to first.

Thanks for responding to this, I wasn't sure if it even posted. I don't know what their plan was but Microsoft has things so screwed up with this last OS I can't tell what did or didn't work. To your question about my question, lol, that sounded funny, the question I was trying to ask is, " Is Firefox and Thunderbird their own program or do I have to use MSN or Google or? as a base platform to work from." I was still in the process of trying to download and/or install. Basically I was still in the process of trying to learn about Firefox and what went with it. These links you posted here will help, I'll visit them today and see what they do. I did try and set Firefox as my default browser but you said it showed up as IE-9 so I guess I need to try again. I also tried to upgrade all of windows products I have and nothing will open without having 10, they even want IE-10 and of course, can't do that without windows 10. Maybe I'll have some good news later today, and thanks again for the help.

Firefox is an Internet browser. Surely you know what that software is for. Thunderbird is email client software. It helps you manage your email without using the providers webmail site. It is not an email provider. You need to obtain email service from an email provider.

Thunderbird and Firefox are linked to Mozilla as their base programming but are two separate, independent programs. Neither one needs the other to work.

Both Thunderbird and Firefox work on all Window versions you mentioned.

What question? Can you get back to that point and make a note of it or capture a screenshot of it?

Also, you could try downloading Thunderbird from this page (scroll down to your preferred language): https://www.mozilla.org/thunderbird/all/

(It's a little confusing because you mentioned that Firefox is working, but you posted using Internet Explorer 9 -- or at least that's what your browser told the forum. For XP and Vista, the applicable version of Firefox is the Extended Support Release: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organ.../all/.)

About Vista not updating itself, that's a concern. Have you considered the System File Checker tool? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system

If you want to make sure you are using Firefox, it's a good idea to start up Firefox using its own program icon. The Windows 10 system-wide search box may be locked to a Microsoft browser.
