Hi,

I can only assume I'm using a 64 bit version of Firefox, it seems to be one of those secret things, the sort of thing Mi'ft are so fond of , they love hiding stuff away, but I am pretty sure it's 64 bit. I suppose the fact Windows might have uninstalled the 64 bit version I downloaded + replaced it with something more to its liking, isn't out of the question, a 32 bit job, maybe? Nothing would surprise me as far as my will having no relevance whatsoever is concerned, but it's Firefox I was wondering about. 'Firefox Isn't Responding', it may as well be called, or 'Firefox Unresponsive Script', not to labour the point, I've arrived at the conclusion it's a piece of junk! Every time I use it, + I do mean every time, it gradually just grinds to a halt, total malfunction, I've only just reinstalled Windows, I'm using 8 extensions, but I just can't kid myself any more. I've used Firefox for yonks, I like their non-corporate/profit angle, but the 64 bit browser is rubbish. It can't just be me, alright, it could just be me, but has anyone else had any problems?
I'd be grateful for any informed opinions, is it rubbish? Or is it trash? Garbage, maybe? I guess some folk would call it sh...............................

OK, I think I can mark this as solved, jscher strikes again!!! It looks as though the 32 bit version is part of my destiny, if it's good enough for you I feel better about dropping down a rung, 64 to 32 is a considerable dip in anyone's book, it's 50%, which is half. Someone tried to convince me that 64 bit doesn't mean that it's twice as good as the 32 bit version, it doesn't work like that, he tried to tell me. Obviously, he thought I was some kind of half-wit, like I was some kind of 32 bit version, perhaps? I can't think where he got that idea from?

Hi SiCo, your Firefox indicated that it is the 64-bit version as part of its user agent string:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:49.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/49.0

The 32-bit user agent string looks like this:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:49.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/49.0

By the way, when you start a line in a post with spaces, the forum software converts it to an unwrapped "preformatted" block, so you may want to edit your question to fix that as it is basically unreadable.

You're a veritable wealth of information, Jscher, no matter what I throw at you you're there, setting me straight with your brand of reliable + trustworthy advice + here you are again. So, I am using 64 bit, although for how much longer I'm not sure? The line indenting 'tip' was an eye-opener, if I hadn't been told I'd never have known + the thought of people not being able to read my questions doesn't bare thinking about. The User Agent String, by the way, I don't know how to access that but I'll be sure to find out. Thank you, Sir, as always I'm much obliged.

Hi SiCo, I still use the 32-bit version of Firefox for Windows because I need some plugins from time to time other than Flash and Silverlight.

Your user agent string is visible on the troubleshooting information page, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

It's in the "Basic Information" table.
