This has only started happening since yesterday, and only -- as far as I can tell -- on Thesaurus.com and Dictionary.com. Other browsers (Chrome/edge) are fine. I've tried all the usual fixes like clearing cache and all cookies, disabling all add-ons,turning off hardware acceleration, refreshing FF etc. Nothing seems to help.

Thanks for your quick reply. Your workaround works (new tab)! I will bring this problem to the attention of the relevant sites and hopefully they will correct the actual problem.

Again, thanks!

There is a new issue in Firefox 44 on sites which use the Google Adsense advertising service and a tool from Cloudflare named Rocket Loader. In other threads, I have not yet seen an explanation of what is causing this incompatibility.

Those two sites might not be using that combination, but I'll mention this anyway:

As a temporary workaround, when you find a site that has this issue, you can open article links in a new tab using one of these methods:

  • hold down the Command key when clicking a link
  • right-click (or Ctrl+click) the link and choose Open Link in New Tab
  • if you have a middle button on your mouse, middle-click the link

Alternately, another user reported that using the page in a private window bypasses this issue, probably because of the anti-tracking feature. For more information:

Hopefully those sites will notice this problem and adopt a workaround on their own, but feel free to bring it to their attention.
