PDF files are Acrobat vector files that have to be printed by Acrobat or through a PDF printer driver that converts the vector mathematics to a raster image that a printer can process.

The only attachments that could be printed directly with the message text are images, HTML, or text which are visible when 'View' > 'Display Attachments Inline' is selected.

All non-text or HTML attachments that are generated by an application will need to be printed by those applications.

In Thunderbird: There is an addon which can show a 'preview' reading of a pdf in a new tab, but it does not allow Printing of the pdf document.
