I updated to Windows 10, all good, then I updated to the latest version of Thunderbird Beta (40.0) (or so I think) and after I updated if I remember correctly, it told me that it would cause my Silverlight plug-in to stop working correctly due to being unsupported.

So after saying all this, the issue is that none of the buttons on the top-right hand side of the window work. I can exit with Alt+F4 and File>Exit and Max with double click on what should close the application, but it doesn't. Everything else works correctly, as far as I am concerned except for this.

Thanks,

Aiox

A pity then, it didn't work. Wonder what might be another way to fix this. Maybe its a bug that's already present in their tracker?

Hmm. Interesting, it seems that by changing the mail.tabs.drawInTitleBar to false in Config Editor fixed it. Maybe I should have tried that first. Too bad I didn't remember until now. But no matter, the issue has been resolved, now it would be nice if this wasn't present on future versions for future users as it could make their Thunderbird experience go askew.

Thank you for your help Matt, have a nice day,

Aiox

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:

  • Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
  • Restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX
If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

Hello Matt, thanks for the quick response, unfortunately, it wasn't the answer to my woes. Neither method worked. I would go and reinstall Thunderbird again but I have several email accounts linked to the program and that would be a...hassle, to reinstate into the reinstalled program. If there's a way to grab the settings and safeguard them while the program is being uninstalled and reinstalled, and then put the settings back to its rightful location so that it shows everything back where it was before the reinstallation, I would appreciate it.

Thank you and I expect your answer,

Aiox

You just reinstall. Thunderbird keeps messages and settings separate from the program, so removing it does not change the profile folder in any way.

It also rarely fixes anything but corrupt program files as all settings are preserved.
