Since installing McAfee, Firefox doesn't show graphics and/or comes as an outline for Etsy, Facebook and Frontier Mail. Why?

On FIreFox, Etsy pages come up in the correct format, but no photos/pictures show (just verbiage in the places). Facebook comes up as an outline with no format or graphics. Frontier Mail comes up as an outline with no format or graphics.

I have cleared the cache and, on McAfee, I have restored the defaults on the "Firewall" page. I also have talked to McAfee tech support. They said it isn't their problem (i.e., the problem isn't with the security software).

I don't know where to go next. I have been through all of the McAfee settings looking for a clue, but found nothing that would seem to help. I prefer FireFox to Google Chrome or Internet Explorer. PLEASE HELP me.

We are using Windows 7.

Debbie

Have you got stylesheets disabled?

I'm not terribly "techie". Where do I find "Stylesheets"? I looked through options for McAfee, my Control Panel and FireFox.

Thanks, Debbie

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can open the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer). Check on the Network tab if any content is blocked and has a file size 0 (zero).

Reload the page via F5 or Ctrl+F5 (bypass the cache) to generate the log on the Network tab.

It did not solve any problems when cleared the cache, removed the cookies and started in safe and reset. My Appearance is set on Default. When I went to the Web Developer & the Network tab. There is presently only one entry "snippets.mozilla.com" and it has a size "0". (Same in regular or safe mode). At point, I did have a lot of entries in the Network tab. Snippets was 200 and everything else there was "0".

What am I supposed to do now?

This may be over my head. I need step by step procedure.

Nothing is better and I am about to give up on FireFox as I have "real" work to do and don't intend to spend hours or more trying to trouble shoot FireFox when at least can do my work on Google Chrome.

Thanks, but frustrated, Debbie

Also, I wanted to inform you that, before I ever contacted Moxilla, I deinstalled "FireFox" and reinstalled "Firefox". I also have upgraded the latest version.

Another thing I did was to contact McAfee. They said it wasn't their issue. I have to agree as I have turned off the Firewall and Anti-Spam and FireFox still doesn't work (i.e., shows on graphics on Frontier Mail, Etsy or Facebook). However, other sites like Ebay, USPS, Spencer Evening World, Madison Courier, Replacements, My Fitness Pal, etc do work perfectly.

What gives?

After you load a page, pull down the View menu and look at Page Style. Make sure the check mark is not on "No Style". With that setting, stylesheets are disabled. If you cannot see any View menu, make the menu bar appear by pressing Alt.

Thanks for telling me where to find the style sheets. The problem pages were all set on "Basic Page Style".

What now? BTW, I, previous to contacting Moxilla, had deinstalled FireFox & reinstalled. Also updated the version to the latest and have tried opening FireFox with McAfee's Firewall turned off. None of which made any difference.

I am befuddled and frustrated.

Thanks, Debbie

What site is it that has those problems? Maybe they are using faulty code.

The sites that I cannot get in proper format are: Etsy, Facebook and Frontier Mail.

All I can tell you is that, prior to installing McAfee security, I had no problem with these sites on FireFox. I contacted McAfee and they said it wasn't their issue. At the time this first happened, at McAfee's suggestion, I deinstalled "FireFox" and reinstalled. Since then I have upgraded to the latest FireFox version. I also tried turning off McAfee's firewall. None of these actions made any difference.

Another person from Moxilla had me try safe mode with add-ons turned off - that made no difference. Also, I looked at Web Console/Network. There were some that had 0 size, but he has not responded since I posted the info to him. That user's name was "cor-el"

Thanks, Debbie

I looked at www.etsy.com/ca/, and I see a page with all the images and formatting. I presume that the /ca/ is the Canadian version of the page. I am in Canada, so presumably no choice. There are 562 errors for stylesheets with that page, however, when I look at the CSS validation. That is a lot of errors! http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?profile=css21&warning=0&uri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.etsy.com%2Fca%2F

There are 67 HTML errors on that same page, checked with w3 validation. http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.etsy.com%2Fca%2F

Okay - you see errors for Etsy (CA), but that doesn't solve my problem AND it doesn't explain why those sites worked before on FireFox and now they don't. The only difference being the installation of McAfee security, deinstallation of previous security (Norton) and reinstallation and upgrade of FireFox.

So - is there a resolution / answer to the problem?

Thanks, Debbie
