Firefox 32.0.1, Shockwave Flash 15.0.0152, and the latest updated Windows 7 are totally screwed up.
Nothing works. Can't even turn on task manager. Everything above is latest version. I would be interested if anyone has the same problem, which surfaced after windows update. In my opinion, Shockwave Flash is the worst piece of software in the history of computing. Hardware acceleration for both Flash and Firefox are off, otherwise Firefox crashes. I'm working in safe mode right now, and the first thing I need to do is disable Flash, then verify my drive with chkdsk. This is probably a Windows problem; they always boast about how code problems in windows amounts to only 3% of the total. Right. Another point is that Firefox has its own problems. Why can't you run it with hardware acceleration on? Why do you have to do a workaround with slows everything down to a crawl?? This has gotten so ridiculous I'm strongly thinking of converting completely to Debian Linux. I have it half configured; I just need to port my bookmarks over to Iceweasel, get my outloook files, and install a player. Normal operation for me, with limited plugins, is very slow performance.

According to Firefox, it's up to date. I ran a dskchk and that may have solved the problem. I disabled Flash and I will now see if that works. Thanks for the suggestion, but the Firefox version was not the problem.

It's a windows bug, but it hasn't shown up before. There is no fix, but I found a workaround that seems to work. I'll have to run it for awhile to see if it continues to work. The problem is that dllhost com surrogate has a memory leak and quickly uses all available memory. What I did was do a clean boot for windows 7 and then started normally. I then installed procexp.exe which monitors all processes, and once dllhost started, I killed it (which task manager won't let you do). That stopped the memory leak and flash, firefox, etc. seem to be running fine.
Just to add again what I already have said, I had firefox and flash hardware acceleration already disabled to prevent firefox crashes. That is a problem with firefox.

I'm pretty sure this is not a virus. I do a double correlation scan with Malware Bytes and BitDefender routinely. I also use HijackThis and Root Kit Buster. This seems to be a chip incompatibility with a windows update. The problem is fixed by me killing the process. I also uninstalled the update that was referred to as related to chipset incompatibliites. Right now it's running with no problems.
