I just installed the latest version of Firefox and now the Google search engine won't work. Why?
I just installed Firefox 30.0 and now my search engine isn't working. Is there something in the new version interfering with Google search?

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

Are you using the Search box located at the top right corner of Firefox or the actual Google homepage?
I see that you have a user.js file currently active in Firefox. It's only there if you or a 3rd party program created it otherwise it's not normally there. You can delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release. You can get to the profile folder below:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory > Show Folder
or
- Go to about:support and click Show Folder next to Profile Directory.

In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test searching in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
- Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).
Any difference?
I was using the Google search box in the right hand corner of Firefox not in my Google account. I used the searchreset option to return to defaults, but had to re-customize the look of Firefox to my own personal preference. Thank you to all three Mozilla supporters in the community for your help.
