Read aloud sometimes fails to read my gmail and gives this error "Missing host permission for the tab"

Anita Privett

I use Read Aloud in Firefox on my gmail. Sometimes it works and sometimes it gives this message:

"Missing host permission for the tab", It gave this message a couple of mornings ago and later in the day it could read the same gmail. Today it is back to not being able read multiple gmails. The extension is ver 1.71.1 and Firefox is 157.0.1 (64-bit). Windows 11 PRO 25H2.

Now it is working again on my gmails. Read Aloud is a critical tool for me. Last week it was working all the time. I complained to the text owner(The Bulwark for instance). in a couple of situation. Now I feel foolish because it probably isn't their fault.

One thing stands out: you’re using Read Aloud 1.71.1, but the Firefox Add-ons page lists a newer version, 1.81.1. I’d check for updates first, then open about:addons, select Read Aloud, and check its website permissions. The missing host permission error suggests the extension may not have access to that Gmail tab. If it keeps happening, use Read Aloud’s built in report issue option so the developer can investigate.

Sorry I have low vision and don't always check what I typed.I have 1.81.1. I checked the permissions and added all the permissions that were not checked. Remember the issue is intermittent. I'd say before last week I had very rarely seen the permission error and in each case it was not plain text that I was trying to have read. I think that was the error message I got when trying to have not plain text.

Where do I find the builtin reporting function ?
