doesn't recognised email or password
I'm setting up a new computer for an elderly lady. On her old computer she logs straight in to emails. But I want to set up on new computer but it doesn't recognise her email address or password - both are correct. Old computer is not Wifi so modem is connected by a lead. I've been transferring the lead to the new computer - but maybe I don't need to do that? Would that be confusing the configuration?

I think there are two steps here and first you need to start with creating a new email address..
If privacy is important to you and your friend. Go to https://www.gmx.com/
These guys ask for basically nothing. As a subsidiary of 1&1 they are covered by German privacy laws so none of that tracking there. The big issue is they ask for so little if you mess up and loose access to the account getting it back can be a little difficult
The next best option is Google, com, but they will track your usage of their service because they are in the business of selling advertising. Targeted advertising brings in more $ to they track everything.
Outlook.com is the product offered by Microsoft and included with every "Microsoft Account" folks create to set up their Windows 10 machines.
Which of these providers is the one to use is a very personal decision. Personally as someone that uses all three as well as Yahoo I would recommend GMX. It is just so simple to create an account.

It doesn't matter which way the computer connects to the Internet.
What is the part of the e-mail address after the @ symbol? How I will help will depend on this info.
Hello Bruce, Thanks so much for responding. The email address is
- @sleigh****.freeserve.co.uk
As I mentioned, this is for an elderly lady and she is adamant she doesn't want to changer her email. I don't want to log out of the emails to even change the password, in case I can't get back in !!

sfhowes. Thank you. So does that mean we will have to change the email address anyway? Sorry, I am not very good at this, a bit of a technophobe I'm afraid:) If we continue with the freeserve address will that be ok? I'm not sure I understand the server settings, not sure how I sort that out? Thanks, Mandy
Hi - thanks for this. I will definitely try this, although I seem to remember that I wasn't able to change the settings. But I will give it a go. I will be going back to see the lady on Tuesday, so if it's ok I will see what I can do then and let you know how I get on. Your help is very much appreciated.
You should definitely create a Gmail account.
Bruce - thank you, this has worried me as I'm now thinking this is a job too far for me as it looks like there is a risk of losing old emails. I know my elderly lady has stuff on there that she needs to keep. Might have to find someone who knows more about this to actually look at the problem and find a solution. Oh well, I guess I thought it would be easier than this.... Thanks again, Mandy
