Been using TBD for years no problem. Had a program on PC for a year, no problem with Kaspersky & Malwarebytes scans: suddenly warning from Kasp. 'Legitimate program but could be used by criminals to....'. Did clean install Windows 10 x 64, changed email addresses, altered lots passwords etc. etc.. Thunderbird: set up accounts - all operating ok - still are today. Set up address book entries during past week: today they have disappeared. Also, can't get rid of Set as Default every time I open Tbd. and, despite ticking the remember password box on one account, I was again asked for it today. Enough to be going on with - can anyone offer any help?

Personally I an disgusted with the current sate of affairs with anti virus products. hey are buggy, often misleading in what they report and over all not conducive to good security. The very thing they are supposed to encourage. Make sure to examine every report from your anti virus program as a need to google what they are saying. The days of blindly accepting what they recommend are behind us. Like Google money and market share have become the motivators.

The reason I ask about which address book, it is a very simple matter to backup the address book files. restoring other than the personal address book (abook.mab) and the collected addresses (history, mab) requires the use of an add-on. The abook and collected files can simply be dropped into the profile folder to replace what is there.

I am not aware of any issues with the address book so your loss of data is either a freak event, or something special to your computer. Windows for instance has a habit of rolling back to earlier versions of files is it has an issue starting up. So backups are becoming more impotent, not less.

So you had a perfectly good Thunderbird and trashed it on the advice of your anti virus. Why?

The set as default is a bug in the current release. It will be with you for a few more weeks.

Now the address book. These entries disappeared from which address book?

Firstly, because I wasn't prepared to take any chances with the 'could be used by criminals' message - as stated I did a Clean Install.

Secondly, if it's a bug and will disappear with an update ... fine.

Thirdly I had entered email accounts and info in the TBD address book following the clean install: a few days later the content of the address book had disappeared.

Yesterday I started re-entering addresses, so far they are still there but I would like, if possible, to ensure that they don't disappear again.
