Login to server failed. How do I fix this?

When I open my thunderbird email on my MAC, I'm getting a message:

Login Failed Login to server failed

Then it gives me 3 button choices to click,

Enter New Password Cancel Retry


I need help here. Thanks

What mail provider? If hotmail in one of it's many names it is probbly this topical issue. http://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com.au/2016/06/hotmail-proxy-errors.html
