Safe Mode breaks Classic Theme Restorer layout

I use Classic Theme Restorer to restore the customisability that was lost with the new UI introduced in Firefox 29. Recently, I had to use Safe Mode, and upon leaving Safe Mode, the UI broke; the address bar was missing.

My address bar is placed in the menu toolbar next to the menus and navigation buttons, and the navigation toolbar is hidden. Upon enabling Safe Mode, or disabling Classic Theme Restorer, the navigation bar is forced back into the navigation toolbar. After leaving Safe Mode or reenabling Classic Theme Restorer, the navigation toolbar is hidden, but the address bar does not return to the menu toolbar.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

I suspect that's an issue with Classic Theme Restorer. There is a Classic Theme Restorer support thread over here. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=2827985&start=1530

Please report this issue to the developer of the addon. Mozilla does not directly provide support of addons and I can not help you with this issue.

That is really a complicated situation if you use an extension to move a normally fixed item to another toolbar. The extension can't detect that you have used Safe Mode and that has messed with the toolbar customization. You can try to reset the browser.uiCustomization.state pref on the about:config page and possibly delete the xulstore.json file in the Firefox profile folder.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
