What a Mozilla Account is used for besides this support.mozilla.org site https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/access-mozilla-services-firefox-account#w_what-services-can-i-use-with-a-mozilla-account

There is no need to use a Mozilla Account in order to use the Firefox web browser on desktop Windows, macOS, Linux or Firefox on Android or iOS/iPadOS

However the new built-in VPN feature in desktop Firefox and more recently in Firefox for Android does need you to sign into your Mozilla Account to use it.
